Chapter 544 Fugitive Tracking (2)
Chapter 544 Fugitive Tracking (2)
"Frank! Frank! Wake up!"
"Hmm...what..."
Frank, with a dizzy head, heard a familiar voice calling his name. It seemed to be Liz. His head ached slightly. Frank instinctively wanted to raise his hand to touch it, but found that he couldn't do such a movement at all. His hand was locked on something.
"What...what's going on?"
"We're not on the observation deck anymore. We seem to be on another floor."
"Let me slow down..."
Frank shook his head, squeezed his eyes hard a few times, and woke up. After adapting to the bright lights in the room, Frank immediately began to observe his condition.
Frank was left with only his underwear. His other clothes were nowhere to be found, and everything he owned was gone. He was lying on a bed, his hands chained to the headboard. Hotel headboards don't have such holes; someone had deliberately punched them with a gun. Then, handcuffs were passed through the holes, locking him in place. His feet were tied to the left and right foot of the bed with ropes made from torn towels. He was tied so tightly that, aside from his head, Frank couldn't move his limbs at all.
Although I could hear Liz's voice, I couldn't see where she was. However, judging from the volume of the sound, it seemed to come from the bathroom in my room.
"Liz?"
"Thank goodness you're finally awake Frank! How are you? Are you hurt?"
"It's just a headache. I'm chained to the bed in the bedroom. How are you?"
"I was tied up and thrown into the bathtub. A lot of shower gel and other things were poured into the bathtub. I couldn't use any strength to get out."
"Where's Adenauer?"
"I don't know. After I woke up, I didn't see any trace of him. He might have run away."
"The architectural style around us is still the same as the hotel. We should have been sent to other floors of the hotel. We need to find a way to get out of here first. Now I can only rely on you, Liz. I can't escape now."
"Do you think I don't want to?"
Liz's hands were tied behind her back, and her ankles and knees were tied tightly with ropes. She was thrown into the bathtub. The inside and top edge of the bathtub were covered with shower gel and other things, making the bathtub very slippery. This slippery state, coupled with her hands and feet being tied, made it impossible for Liz to exert normal strength and there was no way for her to climb out of the bathtub.
"Frank! I've figured out a solution, but if you tell anyone about what happened today, you're dead. Do you hear me, Frank?!"
"What the hell is it?! Just use the solution you think of!!"
Frank was puzzled by Liz's sudden statement. He thought that Liz might feel very embarrassed about being knocked unconscious and tied up by criminals. However, about five minutes later, Frank would realize that what Liz said was not the case at all.
"Luckily I left in a hurry when I came here... I hope it will be successful."
"What did you say Lizzie? Your voice is so quiet!"
"fine!"
Frank heard a sound in the bathroom, like the sound of wet skin rubbing against tiles. It happened quite a few times until five minutes later.
"Boom."
"hiss..."
Frank heard the sound of something hitting the ground, and then he heard Liz gasp. She must have escaped from the bathtub. Soon, Frank saw the bathroom door open and heard a squirming sound. The sound didn't sound comfortable. Although Frank knew that it was the sound of Liz moving because her body was covered with shower gel and other things, it still sounded uncomfortable.
"Frank?"
"what happened?"
"Close your eyes, and when I get on top, bite the rope off my hand."
"Why are you closing your eyes?"
"Just shut up when I tell you to! Stop talking nonsense!"
"Okay, okay! Hurry up!"
Liz's behavior was a little unusual, which made Frank very confused. Liz sounded hesitant, very different from her usual self. But these things were not the focus right now. The focus was Adenauer, who might have escaped. So in order to quickly untie the restraints and hunt Adenauer down, Frank didn't think much about it and closed his eyes according to Liz's instructions.
"Did you close your eyes?"
"Shut it, it's not Liz, hurry up! What if that guy runs away...?!!!"
Frank closed his eyes and was still complaining about Liz's uncharacteristically slow attitude, but soon he felt another person's soft and warm skin touching his body. Frank realized that Liz didn't seem to be wearing any clothes either, and it was this situation that made him subconsciously open his eyes.
Liz had just crawled to Frank's side and had not yet turned around, with her wrists facing him. Frank opened his eyes and looked at Liz thoroughly under the bright light in the room. He noticed that Liz was only wearing a pair of underwear like himself. As a man's instinct, his eyes quickly swept over the part of Liz's body without clothes. However, Frank may have realized his loss of composure, so he was about to look away, but his intuition as a detective made him discover two more marks under Liz's chest, which were the redness caused by pressing the muscles. The method Liz mentioned before was probably to use the friction of the chest to get stuck on the edge of the bathtub, so that she was able to escape from the bathtub.
Frank hadn't really thought about it at this point, but when Liz saw Frank open his eyes, she took his behavior as lustful. Liz gritted her teeth, turned around, and stuffed the rope around his wrists into Frank's mouth. After some time, Frank bit through the ropes that bound Liz's wrists and untied her. After being freed, Liz found some wire and other things in the hotel room and untied the handcuffs that bound Frank. While searching the room, Liz found that her and Frank's clothes were thrown in the living room, and most of the other things were there. The only things that were taken were their weapons, Frank's cell phone, the half pack of cigarettes he had in his pocket, and the keys to their handcuffs.
"I didn't mean to..."
"Most of our things are here, except for the weapons and your phone. The weapons are understandable, but why did he take your phone?"
Liz was obviously not going to mention what had just happened, and Frank was not going to bring bad luck upon himself, so the two of them put on their clothes, put aside this little episode, and didn't talk about it anymore.
"He must have guessed, or suspected, that we might have other people around the hotel, so he might have used my phone to send a false message and escape from the hotel."
“But why was my phone left behind?”
"He must have somehow learned of your relationship with the Chief. In order to leave the hotel smoothly, he needs a phone to send a fake message, and he should have that phone with him for the time being. But as the Chief's daughter, your phone is likely monitored by the police data center and is not safe. That's why he kept your phone. But we are all detectives, and our phones have positioning systems. Once he leaves the hotel and reaches a safe place, he will immediately throw my phone away. What time is it now?"
"Two o'clock. Based on how long we stayed at the observation deck and how long it took us to be tied up, he should have only been gone for about ten minutes."
"Give me the phone, Liz. I'll call the guys around the hotel right away and ask if they've received any messages from my phone during this time."
After receiving the phone from Liz, Frank immediately contacted all the guys around the hotel, asking them to take photos or screenshots of the messages they had sent him. While waiting, Frank called Lugosi, informing him of the situation he and Liz had investigated and that his phone had been taken. He also told Lugosi that he had to notify his colleagues in the communications department to locate his phone. However, Frank did not reveal that the two men had been tied up.
Soon, the brothers guarding outside the hotel sent photos and screenshots. Frank was right. Adenauer had indeed used his mobile phone to send some false messages to them.
"He must have taken my car. In these photos and screenshots, 'Frank' needs to go see the director, and 'Liz' stayed at the hotel to continue questioning. He also asked the hotel staff to move the cars blocking the underground garage."
"The message asking the hotel to move the vehicle was sent a minute ago. He probably hasn't even left the hotel yet!"
"I'll call someone right away!"
Frank and Liz rushed out of their room. Frank immediately notified his friends around the hotel, asking them to head to the entrance to the underground parking lot and stop his car. As Liz left, she took a look and realized they were in Dina's room on the 22nd floor. But where was Dina? Why wasn't she in her room? The hallway was completely deserted, not even the hotel staff, nor the celebrities' agents or bodyguards.
"Frank! This is Dina's room!"
"What?! Where did everyone go?"
"Go get the gun, then go to the underground parking lot. I'll stay here to investigate..."
"Bang Bang Bang!!!"
Realizing something was amiss, Liz immediately called out to Frank, telling him to exit the hotel from the first floor and rendezvous with his colleagues outside the underground parking lot. They should get their guns and then guard the parking lot exit, while Liz stayed behind to investigate Dina and the others. But before she could finish her words, they heard several gunshots. It was already past two in the morning, and aside from the staff involved, most of the hotel's guests had already gone to bed. The hotel was very quiet, and the sound of gunfire was naturally very noticeable. All the hotel rooms were soundproofed, so even if the hotel was very quiet, if the gunshots had come from a single room, the two wouldn't have been able to hear them clearly. Therefore, the shots were likely fired not from the room, but from a hallway on one floor.
"Damn it! Frank! Call for help!!"
"Be careful! Don't act so arrogant! Liz! Damn it!"
Before Frank could hang up the phone, Liz had already run out of the corridor and rushed into the stairwell. Frank lost track of Liz and could only curse a few words, then immediately took the elevator to the first floor to meet up with the brothers outside. He believed in Liz's judgment. The other party was not a rookie and would not do anything stupid without a weapon.
A few minutes later.
Liz followed the sound of gunfire to the 23rd floor, where she found it empty, with no one there. However, a celebrity's bodyguard lay dead in the hallway. The cause of death was obvious: a gunshot wound to the head. The murder weapon was even found next to his body. The weapon that killed the bodyguard was the very pistol that had been taken from Frank.
Liz immediately picked up Frank's pistol and checked it. Indeed, there was one less bullet than when Frank fired a few shots on the observation deck. The shell of this bullet was also on the ground nearby.
The pistol fell some distance from the body, so it couldn't have been a suicide. Someone must have fired the gun, but why the bodyguard was killed was unknown. It hadn't been more than a few minutes between the time she heard the gunshot and when Liz arrived. She hadn't heard any footsteps when she came up, and the elevator next to her hadn't moved, so the killer must still be on this floor. Without hesitation, Liz grabbed Frank's pistol, leaned against the wall, and began a cautious search. However, most of the rooms were locked.
"Squeak..."
Among the rooms on the 23rd floor, there was only one exception. Liz had been there during her previous investigation. She remembered it as a broker's room. On the entire 23rd floor, only this room's door was open. Liz raised her pistol, cautiously opened the door, and looked inside. However, after entering, Liz found nothing.
"Liz?!"
Liz checked the room and soon heard Frank's voice. After meeting up with the people outside, Frank took two guns again and used the hotel surveillance to find Liz's location. Liz first informed Frank, then walked out of the room and explained the situation to him.
"My gun? Then the person who killed this bodyguard must be Adenauer. There is only one stairwell on the 23rd floor. If you didn't hear any movement when you came up, it means he is hiding on this floor."
"Frank, Liz."
Frank was followed by four or five people, who were some of the people who had been guarding around the hotel before. They were the ones Frank called to help.
"Very good, please help me and check every room on this floor. Be careful, the murderer may still be hiding here. He is armed and has very good marksmanship, so be careful."
"Ah."
"it is good."
With the help of several people, Frank and Liz continued to search the entire 23rd floor, but found nothing. At this time, the elevator on the 23rd floor suddenly rang, and someone arrived on the 23rd floor from another floor. Several people immediately surrounded it, but when the elevator door opened, there was no one inside. However, the pistol that Liz had taken away earlier and Frank's cell phone were lying quietly in the middle of the elevator.
"Damn it! This guy is playing tricks on us!"
"But how did this guy get around Liz and get to other floors?"
At this moment, Frank's phone suddenly rang. It wasn't someone calling him, but an alarm that had been set in advance. The label on the alarm said "Check the headlines."
A bad premonition suddenly appeared in everyone's mind. At this moment, Frank and Liz's cell phones rang at the same time. The person who called Liz was Director Lugosi, and the call to Frank's cell phone in Liz's hand was from an unknown number.
