Chapter 1014 - 968: Spending the Night at the Temple
Sienna Johnson was eating a ham sandwich, and it actually tasted pretty good. She took a sip of water and asked, "How long did you spend planning this trip, exactly?"
"I started getting ready half a year ago."
"Just to sleep with me?"
"Yup."
"I’m already your Wife, do you really need to go to all this trouble?" Sienna stuffed a piece of shredded beef into his mouth, then put what he hadn’t finished eating into her own.
"A man who schemes and plots to marry a woman home but doesn’t scheme and plot just as hard to dote on his Wife is the stupidest of all. If Wife runs away, that’s a huge loss."
Sienna laughed. "Sounds like Sixth Master is speaking from experience."
"Of course!" Adrian Desmond looked at her, his gaze full of meaning. That look told Sienna that he was talking about her, this heartless, ungrateful woman.
"Relax. As long as you treat me well, I won’t run."
"Do I treat you well?"
"So far, yes."
"I’ll treat you well in the future too."
Sienna answered, "If you treat me well, I’ll treat you well too."
The two of them looked at each other and smiled, everything unspoken between them.
The vast Temple to the goddess, broken walls and crumbling ruins, the occasional small animal darting by—the Temple was so quiet that their voices echoed when they spoke.
If Sienna were alone, there’s no way she’d dare stay here.
After dinner, they sat there watching the sea. Sienna was a bit tired, dozing off in Adrian’s warm arms.
"Do you like this trip?"
"I do!"
Sienna hadn’t traveled much. Before, she’d been busy studying piano, learning dance, buried under heavy coursework... When she grew up and took over Eastminster Group, it was all kinds of social engagements, pressing down on her so hard she could barely breathe. How would she dare slack off and play?
A trip like this—so casual, not caring about time—she’d truly never had one before.
"Actually, I’ve got a psychological shadow when it comes to traveling."
"..."
"My first time going abroad was with Frederick Stewart. I knew that man had an ambiguous thing going on with Sabrina Johnson, but I really didn’t expect the two of them would actually have the guts to try to kill me."
"You’re so smart, how did you let them set you up?" Adrian asked.
Sienna snuggled in Adrian’s arms, talking about that past with no feelings left attached to it. "I underestimated how vicious they were! With Sabrina Johnson’s IQ, she couldn’t pull off anything too fancy. I thought at most she’d pretend to get pregnant or something to ruin the wedding.
I never wanted to marry Frederick Stewart in the first place, but I didn’t want to put my dad in a tight spot either. So even after I knew about the thing between Sabrina and Frederick, I kept quiet.
I even kept creating opportunities for them to sneak around. I was just waiting for Sabrina to squeeze me out and successfully climb up.
Who knew they’d actually want me dead."
Now one of them was dead and the other in prison, and Sienna’s anger had long since burned out.
"If it weren’t for me, you’d have died in the sea ages ago. And you’re still here tormenting me nonstop. You’re just taking advantage of the fact that I like you. Otherwise I’d have tossed you back into the ocean to feed the sharks."
Sienna licked her lips and said, "If you hadn’t been so rough with me back then, if you’d properly pursued me, maybe we never would’ve broken up."
"I didn’t pursue you? I gave you jewelry, clothes, a yacht... Did you think I was doing charity work?"
"Ugh... Dealing with a love idiot like you is exhausting."
"Experience comes from practice. If I were very experienced, you’d despise me for that too."
"True."
Sienna still preferred a man who was like a blank sheet of paper, because there was nothing drawn on it yet, so she could draw whatever she liked on it.
Compared to those experienced men who’d been through everything, men who were like a blank sheet in matters of love were much easier to "transform."
There’s a saying: if you can’t find a perfect quality man, find one that’s easy to remodel.
For women, it’s a gamble. Luckily, she’d won. With the Adrian Desmond she had now, Sienna was very satisfied, very much in love, deeply in love.
In the middle of the night, when Sienna was pinned down in the tent by Adrian for yet another round of battle, she thought to herself: aside from this one thing, she really wished he wouldn’t be this strong.
"Still saying you don’t want it... Mm, look how much you’re dripping, you’ve soaked all my hair down there."
"..."
"Let it out... There’s no one here, just cry out... No one will hear."
Adrian’s pace grew faster and faster each time. Sienna felt like she was on the verge of death; her teeth biting against her own, broken sounds spilling from between her lips.
For some reason, the echoes in the Temple weren’t exactly their original voices. The sound was a bit distorted, like there were four people there... It was a very strange feeling.
"Adrian, I’m going to die..."
"Then we’ll die together!"
The two of them were pressed so close their breathing was magnified countless times, drowning out all other sounds.
"Sienna! Ah..."
...
Early in the morning, severely sleep-deprived Sienna was woken up noisily by Adrian. Irritated, she reached out and clawed at him, scratching his face.
Adrian snapped, "Are you a cat or something?"
"I didn’t do it on purpose."
"Then what’s with the scratch marks on my face?"
Sienna looked at the claw marks on Adrian’s face and felt both guilty and distressed. "Are you okay?"
"No, I’m not!"
"..."
"My face is ruined!"
"So what if it’s ruined? You already have a Wife, what are you scared of? Don’t worry, I won’t嫌弃 you." Sienna cupped his face and examined the wound. It wasn’t anything serious.
"..."
"Next time I’m sleeping, can you not wake me up so roughly?"
"We finally made it out here. Don’t you want to see the sunrise over the sea?"
"I do."
"Come on, I’ll take you."
"I’m not dressed yet."
Adrian wrapped the naked Sienna in a blanket, carried her out of the tent, and went to the edge of the cliff.
Yesterday the light was dim and you couldn’t see below the cliff clearly. Looking again today, Sienna’s heart nearly jumped out of her chest—if you fell, you’d be smashed to pieces for sure.
"We’re here to watch the sunrise. What are you looking down for?"
"Let’s stand a little farther from the edge. It’s too dangerous. If we fall, we’re both dead for sure."
"Your courage is smaller than a mouse’s."
"It’s never wrong to be cautious."
"The sun’s coming out..."
Sienna raised her head and first saw a faint glow of dawn. The world was so vast and empty, and that little ball of fire slowly broke free of the horizon, its fiery red energy staining everything in sight. In about ten minutes, its flaming leap calmed, leaving only silvery traces scattered across the surface of the water.
The whole sunrise lasted for about half an hour. Sienna etched the beautiful scene deeply into her mind.
"It’s so beautiful."
"Not as beautiful as you."
Under the glow of dawn, Sienna’s whole face seemed to be lit from within. No scenery, no matter how stunning, could compare to the woman in his arms.
