Chapter 1005 - 688: Alexander Vaughn [04] Confrontation

Sophie Scott was taken onto a van by Nora Scott.

Those hidden in the shadows remained unnoticed as they surveilled, and upon seeing this, they immediately split up to take action — one driving to track, the other contacting Alexander Vaughn.

"Connected yet?" asked the driver.

"No."

The contact furrowed his brow.

"There’s an operation tonight; it’s unlikely we’ll get a hold of him anytime soon," said the driver. "Just follow them for now. Get others over here; Vaughn has repeatedly emphasized that we can’t let Sophie be in danger."

"Alright."

The person making contact was sweating profusely with anxiety.

...

In another car.

Butler Loxley was driving, with Nora and Sophie seated in the back.

Nora hadn’t restrained Sophie’s hands and feet, but sitting next to Nora, Sophie was bound by an invisible pressure, unable to move a muscle.

"What are you planning?" Sophie took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, speaking deliberately, "Kidnapping is illegal, you know that?"

"You know very well what I’m planning," Nora crossed her legs, speaking casually, while glancing sideways at her with a smiled curled lip, "I’m taking my sister out for a meal, is that a crime?"

"Cut the crap! I’m not your sister!" Sophie exploded instantly.

"Say that less," Nora leaned back lazily in the chair, speaking indifferently, "after all, my temper isn’t that great."

"..."

Sophie was stuck.

Sophie suddenly felt the touch of a blade in her hand, which Nora toyed with between her fingers, her movements careless, with a voice carrying some of the chill of spring, "Do you think Alexander Vaughn will show up for you?"

Sophie’s heart tightened instantly.

She paused before speaking, "You’re deluding yourself, he wouldn’t show up for me!"

"Selling yourself short?"

"..."

Sophie was left speechless again.

She never seemed to win against Nora.

Since their first meeting, she had been completely overpowered by Nora’s presence.

Even now, she was still utterly oppressed.

Sophie simply shut her mouth, refusing to speak further.

She thought Nora would play the emotional card, perhaps mentioning Ernesto Scott or Oliver Scott, to make her voluntarily reveal information about Alexander Vaughn, but Nora asked nothing further and didn’t even initiate any conversation.

Yet Sophie worried the entire way.

*

The night deepened.

Nora found a familiar restaurant and treated Sophie to a good meal.

Just as they were finishing, she received a call from an unknown number.

"This is Alexander Vaughn."

The voice on the phone directly revealed his identity, pleasant and seemingly amused, not at all like a criminal mastermind behind numerous cases.

They had only briefly met because of Matt Leung.

In the past two years, despite frequent contact, they hadn’t truly met.

It was quite intriguing.

Nora wasn’t surprised, she chuckled, "Long time no see."

Alexander Vaughn said, "Release her."

"You know what I want."

"Two Mechanism City blueprints."

"If possible, including yourself," Nora lazily added.

"You’ve got quite the appetite." Alexander chuckled softly, then said almost with certainty, "You won’t harm her."

"Indeed, I won’t harm her." Nora glanced up, smiling casually at Sophie, who was full of suspicion sitting across from her, "But I have ways to make her wish she were dead."

Sophie was about to speak.

Yet, as she opened her mouth, Butler Loxley stepped forward suddenly pressing down on her shoulder, causing her sudden pain, turning her words into a scream.

The sound notably reached the other end of the call.

"..."

Alexander Vaughn was silent.

"Just a little accident, don’t take it to heart." Nora replied slowly, dragging her speech, "You’ve stayed at Biel Hall, then you should know we have the top-notch interrogation team, they can drive anyone insane in a short time, prying out all desired information."

Nora curved her lips, "She won’t die, she’ll live a lifetime in humiliation. Rest assured, her father is wealthy enough to support her forever."

"..."

Sophie suddenly became furious, her eyes red with anger, grinding her teeth, "Nora, you wouldn’t dare!"

"Apparently Alexander Vaughn hasn’t told you that," Nora raised her eyelids in amusement, "there’s barely anything I wouldn’t dare do. Isn’t it just a willing-to-disappear daughter? I can make you vanish alive for the rest of your life."

"..."

Sophie’s pupils contracted a bit.

Though Nora seemed to be jesting, smiling, but every word was filled with authenticity.

——Nora’s words were feasible.

——It depends on whether Nora wants to do them.

Having stayed by Alexander Vaughn’s side for so long, even if Sophie didn’t know everything, she vaguely sensed what was going on. She could foresee the gap between Nora who could match Alexander Vaughn and an ordinary Sophie.

At this moment, Sophie felt true fear.

After a long silence, Alexander Vaughn spoke again on the call, "Perhaps we could discuss this."

"No discussing."

Nora cut the call.

If Alexander Vaughn had ended the call voluntarily, it showed he could abandon Sophie. But since he initiated this conversation, it meant he feared Nora truly targeting Sophie, and he couldn’t let go of Sophie.

It seemed Nora’s "cold-blooded" image had deeply rooted in Vaughn’s mind.

Heh.

Quite amusing.

Despite betraying and playing so many people, Alexander Vaughn valued Sophie this much.

Even if it exposed his weakness.

"What exactly is your plan?" Sophie abruptly stood up, her body trembling.

"Didn’t I tell him?" Nora played with her phone, smiling, "Do you have hearing issues?"

Sophie: "..."

Standing up, Nora pocketed her phone, speaking lightly, "Let’s go, I’ll take you for a walk."

Sophie: "..." She really had no choice.

Right now, Sophie regretted deeply.

If only she hadn’t run off.

...

Nora and Sophie’s "walk" was very open and blatant.

Not hiding at all.

This was Anchel.

The Anchel where Nora could strut around.

Here, people like Alexander Vaughn should fear her, there’s no reason for her to hide.

Just this arrogant.

Soon, Nora led Sophie to a riverside.

The phone rang again.

With one hand in her pocket, Nora hung up twice before answering the third time.

"Release her." Alexander Vaughn’s voice was cold.

"Where’s the leverage?"

Alexander Vaughn spoke slowly and deliberately, "Pedro Langley is in my hands."
