Chapter 64 Everything is fine
Chapter 64 Everything is fine
After handling the Hong Kong orders and the follow-up matters of the government inspection, Ling Yun took a rare few days off. He spent most of his time with An Shiyu, and the two would either stroll under the shade of trees on campus or read and chat in the newly opened, relatively quiet tea room on the second floor of "Starry Sky Internet Cafe".
An Shiyu didn't pry into the details of his time in America, but simply stayed by his side quietly, using her gentleness and understanding to ease the fatigue he had accumulated from days of travel. Occasionally, Lingyun would chat with her about his experiences in Silicon Valley, about the two passionate founders of Alienware, and An Shiyu's eyes would always light up as she listened, genuinely happy for his achievements.
Then, Lingyun carried bags of gifts and returned to her parents' home.
When his mother saw him, she was first pleasantly surprised, but then began a half-hour-long, concerned complaint.
"So you finally decided to come back? Huh?" His mother said, peeling an apple for him while nagging, "You think you're all grown up now? You just run off to America like that, barely even calling! You've been gone for almost half a year. Do you know how worried your father and I were? The newspapers were always saying it's unsafe in America, with shootings and robberies... You, instead of finishing your studies, went off to mess around with factories, and now you've gone abroad. You've really gotten wild!"
His father sat on the sofa, reading the newspaper with his reading glasses on. Occasionally, he would glance at him over the top of the lenses and snort, "Young man, it's good to be ambitious, but don't forget where your roots are." Though his words were few, his concern was evident.
Ling Yun listened patiently to his mother's "nagging" with a smile, handed her the peeled apple, and chatted with his father about the factory's situation and the country's economic climate. During his two days at home, he deliberately put aside all work, accompanying his mother to buy groceries and cook, listening to his father tell interesting stories about his surroundings, as if he had returned to his simple student days. This ordinary, everyday atmosphere allowed his tense nerves to relax for a moment.
However, this "laissez-faire" state only lasted for two days. On the third day, his mother started nagging, "What kind of boss are you, always sitting at home doing nothing? Don't you have anything to do at the factory? Don't you need to take care of the internet cafe?" His father also hinted from time to time that he should focus on his career.
Ling Yun understood immediately. His parents were, after all, traditional people who wanted their children to be around them but were also afraid of interfering with their children's studies. Seeing the first signs of "annoyance," he immediately followed their advice and decisively "ran away."
He first went to the Xinghuo Electronics Factory. The factory was bustling with activity, machines roaring. The 500 newly recruited workers, after a short training, were already quite proficient and were working methodically on the assembly line. Boxes of packaged "Xinghuo" brand keyboards and mice were being loaded onto container trucks bound for Hong Kong.
Although factory director Ma Baoguo had dark circles under his eyes, clearly indicating he had been staying up late, he was full of energy and reported on his work in a clear and organized manner, readily reciting various data.
"President Ling, rest assured! Production will definitely keep up with the schedule, and I will personally oversee the quality. I will never tarnish the 'Spark' brand!" Ma Baoguo patted his chest and assured him.
Looking at the well-organized workshop and the energetic workers, Ling Yun felt gratified. Ma Baoguo, the old factory director, was indeed competent, managing production in an orderly manner, allowing him to confidently entrust the domestic operations to him.
After leaving the electronics factory, he went to the "Starry Sky Internet Cafe" near the north gate of Shandong University. Even on a weekday afternoon, the internet cafe was packed. What surprised him even more was the computer training class on the second floor. Several small classrooms were full of people, including students and people who looked like working professionals, all listening attentively to the instructor explaining basic Windows operations and WPS word processing.
Sun Peng explained that since the training course was launched, enrollment has been extremely popular, with slots already booked until next month. Not only is the course itself profitable, but it has also brought a large number of potential long-term customers to the internet cafe.
Zhao Weiguo and Sun Peng are now fully capable of handling things independently and are managing the internet cafe and training business with great success.
Looking at all this, Ling Yun finally let go of his last worry. The foundation in the domestic market was solid; the internet cafes were a stable cash cow; the electronics factory, thanks to orders from Hong Kong, was on the right track and had opened up export opportunities; and a good start had been made in establishing a relationship with the government. Everything was developing steadily according to his plan, even exceeding expectations.
it's time.
Jinan Airport, August 28, 1996.
Ling Yun carried only a simple bag as he passed through security and headed towards the boarding gate. He didn't let anyone see him off, not his parents, An Shiyu, or his company subordinates. He preferred this light and easy way of traveling.
Sitting by the window on the Boeing 757, watching the familiar land of Shandong Province gradually shrink and recede from view, Ling Yun's eyes were calm and resolute.
After a brief rest and inspection, he left his gentle hometown and nascent industrial empire behind for the time being. Ahead lay Los Angeles, a broader battlefield and more daunting challenges—the IceCloud investment strategy needed to be deepened, Alienware products needed to be launched to the market, Yahoo's stock needed close monitoring, and most importantly, the development of the "Star System," which was crucial to the future, awaited his return to take the helm.
He closed his eyes, already planning his first steps after arriving in Los Angeles.
With engines roaring, the plane soared into the azure sky, carrying its ambitions and dreams, once again crossing the Pacific Ocean, heading towards a new world full of infinite possibilities and fierce competition.
