Chapter 42 The Kuroshio Current on the Sea Level
Chapter 42 The Kuroshio Current on the Sea Level
It's a new day, with the first rays of dawn.
The waves of the West Sea crashed against the reefs on the west coast, shattering with a deafening roar and splashing up white foam everywhere.
Deep within the surging waves, a massive black shadow is silently pressing down on this west coast, carried by the ocean currents.
Those were hundreds of dragon-headed longships!
The longboat is a streamlined vessel designed specifically for cutting through waves. It has a long, thin, and symmetrical bow and stern, with a ferocious dragon head on the bow and numerous round shields hanging on both sides of the hull.
This is the entire raiding army of the Kare tribe of the Vanskerry Islands!
They are heading towards the west coast of Fieldsway.
On a longship in the middle of the fleet, Yarmu Xiong Godo of the Kare tribe stood alone.
Nearly forty years old, Godot wore a thick black bearskin cloak, his long hair and beard plastered to his cheeks by the sea breeze, revealing his weathered face.
Godot's right eye was deathly white, and a scar running from his brow bone to his jawline added a touch of ferocity and brutality to his stern face.
He was tall and strong, with broad and thick shoulders and back.
Thick hair was faintly visible on his forearms and chest, making him look like a lurking humanoid beast when he stood there!
With a dragon bone axe in his right hand and his left hand resting on the railing of the longship, Godot, even standing still, exuded a sense of oppressive power, as if he had been through countless battles.
This chieftain of the Kare tribe (Yar) once struck fear into the hearts of the entire West Coast!
He once plundered dozens of coastal villages in a single year... and thousands of people lost their lives under the swords of his pirate army!
The name Yar is used by even a village chief, unlike Fieldsway.
But in Vanscaree, "Yar" could only be the highest chief of a tribe!
……
"Big brother! We're almost there!"
A rough voice came from behind, filled with undisguised bloodlust and excitement.
A burly man wearing chainmail, even more imposing than Godot, came up from behind. This man was none other than Godot's younger brother, "The Spinebreaker" Stan!
"If we don't loot now, my axe will rust!" Stan said, his eyes filled with rage.
"In the name of Haf Sigra, those traitors who have disobeyed ancestral teachings and only know how to hide in their warm houses, prepare our axes!"
Godot did not turn around; his one eye remained fixed on the coastline. He murmured, "Thanks to those former 'kinsmen'."
"Saxon wants to sit on Fieldsway's throne; he's determined to push through the legislation..."
"Not only do we disagree, but the lords whose interests have been harmed by his bill will also disagree!"
"Those rats in the gutter! It's all thanks to them..." Godot said with a contemptuous look and a face full of disdain.
"Instead of facing the iron fist of Saxony, they offered us a map of coastal defenses, which was a golden opportunity."
"Our Kare tribe has been trapped in this harsh, cold land for far too long. The soil is barren, and the winds are biting cold!"
Stan was also indignant: "Why should they be the only ones who get to enjoy this part of the West Coast?"
"We'll raid those territories until they're completely ransacked, kill all the men, and only take the young women..."
"We need food, we need women, we need wealth!"
Godot nodded and said in a deep voice, "Now that they're fighting so fiercely among themselves, it's the perfect time for us to strike!"
"What a pity, those short-sighted, foolish old fogies on the mainland just won't join me!"
As Godot spoke, his face full of resentment, he slammed his fist on the ship.
He had previously invited the various tribes of the native Vanskerry to raid together, hoping to use their strength to completely take over a region of the west coast!
Stan was filled with rage at the thought of those cowardly natives who refused to join him. "Those cowards! They are unworthy to feast eternally in my Lord's hall after death!"
"No problem! We can still flatten this coastline even without them!"
Godot's gaze swept over the densely packed longships behind him, each one filled with his fully armed Vanskerry warriors!
These thousands of Vanskerry sea raiders were mostly clad in dark chainmail, equipped with oak round shields, and wielded crescent-bladed battle axes!
His own Sea Wolf Warriors, even wearing medium-weight plate chainmail and equipped with dragon bone axes, are the foundation of his confidence in conquering cities and fortresses!
Godot surveyed the warriors who had followed him, his heart surging with emotion.
He knew better than anyone that the Fieldsway lords saw him as a weapon against Kango Saxon!
But wasn't he also taking advantage of this group of short-sighted traitors?
In the past month or so, they have looted dozens of times, and each time they have returned fully loaded!
With their combined inside and outside support, the entire West Coast defense line was rendered useless to them, practically leaving the gates wide open for them to run rampant!
These cowardly lords, too afraid to rebel themselves, used him as a tool to slaughter their own people!
And Godot, too, enjoyed it immensely!
In the past, it was just small-scale fighting, but this time, he brought the entire warriors of the Kare tribe!
While others used him as a tool to kill, wasn't he also using these infighting nobles to pave a bright future for his Kare tribe?
In Godot's view, the Vanscarene's plundering nature was eternal, but that did not prevent him from taking over a fertile piece of land on the west coast!
The people of the Kare tribe may not know how to farm, but they absolutely cannot be without their own fertile land!
……
Just then, a lookout suddenly exclaimed in alarm:
"Yar! I see the coast! And the village on the shore!"
I didn't see any patrol teams!
In an instant, the entire ship fell silent.
The wind seemed to have stopped.
Godot turned around abruptly, his bearskin cloak fluttering gently in the sea breeze.
He raised the dragon bone axe high in his hand, letting out a roar like that of a giant bear:
"Warriors of Kare!"
The Lord of Storms guided us to this shore!
"We've arrived in this bountiful land!"
"Ahead lies the place where those traitors reside! The homeland of those who betrayed their ancestral teachings!"
"There's an endless supply of rum! Unlimited gold and silver! And an inexhaustible supply of women for you to plunder!"
Godot swung his axe forward.
"Pick up your axes!"
Even if we die on the battlefield, our souls will surely go to the hall of our Lord and enjoy an eternal feast!
Vanscare's glory lies in plunder and bloodshed!
"Dock! Disembark!"
Godot's voice could only reach a few nearby ships, but the pirates on the distant longships cheered just as loudly!
As the longboat accelerated wildly toward the mudflats, several bull horn horns were sounded simultaneously, their deep and powerful sounds tearing through the sea breeze and echoing across the water.
The Vanscaret pirates all stood up, fully equipped, their battle axes and round shields clashing with deafening force.
Fishermen on the coast were the first to notice the unusual activity at sea. The fleet of ships, which seemed to blot out the sky, was impossible for them to miss!
The villagers by the sea ran desperately towards their homes to spread the news...
However, not far behind them, on the mudflats, a group of Vanscare pirates had already landed!
Armed with round shields and clad in chainmail and metallic armor, the pirates surged out of the longship like a black tide...
The black tide, carrying blood and fire, has arrived!
