Chapter 300 Barrett Attacks, Allegiances Confirmed
Siegfried leaped off the cliff and landed on a piece of wood that had somehow surfaced in the water.
"Another one sent to its death?" Raven gritted its teeth. "Attack together, let's take care of this newbie first!"
The burly man and the gray-robed man attacked Siegfried simultaneously.
But Siegfried didn't even glance at them.
He simply raised his greatsword and made a simple downward slashing motion towards them.
"Fantasy Claymore: Balmung (Fallen Demon) ————"
The runes on the greatsword lit up one by one, accumulating terrifying energy.
"No, that's not right." Siegfried suddenly stopped chanting.
He looked at the dumbfounded opponent, then at the greatsword in his hand, seemingly deep in thought.
Then, he did something that stunned everyone.
He sheathed his greatsword.
"Using a Noble Phantasm to deal with something like this would be too wasteful."
To the astonishment of Raven and the others, Siegfried walked toward the Spellbreaker with his bare hands.
The red light on the head of the Spellbreaker flickered wildly, and its four pairs of limbs simultaneously aimed at Siegfried, unleashing dozens of purple beams of light!
Siegfried neither dodged nor avoided.
He raised his left hand, palm facing forward.
Those beams of light, powerful enough to devour magic, bounced off as if hitting an invisible wall the instant they touched Siegfried's palm.
dissipate.
"How is this possible?!" the gray-robed man exclaimed in shock. "How could the Spellbreaker's beam be ineffective against Heroic Spirits?!"
Siegfried finally spoke, his voice eerily calm.
"Because my immortality is not made of magic."
He continued walking forward, each step landing on the sea, the wooden planks beneath his feet moving forward with each step.
"The immortality I gained by bathing in dragon blood is an absolute defense at the conceptual level."
"Unless you find that one and only weakness, no attack will work on me, whether it's physical, magical, or your strange technology."
He walked up to the lawbreaker.
This enormous weapon was more than twice his height, but under Siegfried's calm gaze, it gave the illusion that it was trembling.
"And you things—" Siegfried reached out and pressed his hand on the crack in the chest of the Spellbreaker.
"Clearly, they don't know where my weaknesses lie."
He clenched his five fingers together.
"Snap—"
A sickening metallic creaking sound rang out.
Siegfried ripped open the armor on the Spellbreaker's chest with his bare hands, revealing the complex mechanical structure and the core that emitted a purple light.
Siegfried had grasped the core.
Then, crush it.
"BOOM—!!!"
The massive body of the Breaker froze, the red light went out, and then the entire machine began to collapse and disintegrate, turning into a pile of scrap metal that sank into the sea.
A deathly silence fell over the sea.
The raven, the burly man, and the gray-robed man stared blankly at the scene, even forgetting to breathe.
"Monster—monster—" the raven murmured.
Siegfried turned around, his silver armor spotless.
He looked at the three ravens, his calm eyes holding no murderous intent, yet they felt as if they had fallen into an ice cave.
"Should we continue?" he asked calmly.
The raven's Adam's apple bobbed.
Reason told him that he should retreat immediately.
This newly appeared heroic spirit is too strange, its strength is unfathomable, and it is clearly beyond the capabilities of their small team.
But the admiral's order—
"Withdraw," Raven uttered through gritted teeth.
The man in the gray robe immediately brandished his staff, and the submarine began to descend. The burly man also jumped onto the deck, and the three of them quickly entered the submarine.
"We will meet again, spirits of Zou." Raven stared intently at Siegfried before the submarine fully submerged. "The Admiral—will be interested in you."
The submarine disappeared into the deep sea, and the surface returned to calm, leaving only some floating debris as evidence of the battle that had just taken place.
Siegfried then turned around and looked at Pedro and Hiyori on the sailboat, as well as Nobunaga who had returned to the ship.
"Nice to meet you." He nodded slightly. "I am Siegfried, and this is my Master, Pedro."
Nobunaga scrutinized Siegfried, his red eyes gleaming with a probing light.
"Hmph? Just state your name? Siegfried—the dragon-slaying hero of the Netherlands? Interesting."
He grinned. "That was a good move. But, are you sure you have no weaknesses?"
Siegfried remained silent.
This question is too direct and too sensitive.
Pedro stepped forward, blocking Siegfried's path, and looked at Nobunaga and Hiyori with his one eye.
"This is not a topic suitable for discussion here." His voice carried an undeniable firmness. "Are you descendants of the Kozuki family?"
'
Hiyori composed herself and bowed solemnly: "I am Kozuki Hiyori, the younger sister of Kozuki Momonosuke. This is my servant, Lord Oda Nobunaga."
She raised her head, her purple eyes filled with earnestness.
"We came to Zou seeking the Mink Tribe's protection. Kaido gave us three days, and two days have already passed. We—"
"—Nowhere to go."
Pedro and Siegfried exchanged a glance.
"Let's get ashore first," Pedro said. "This isn't the place to talk. The Blackbeard's men may have left, but there's no guarantee that no one else is watching nearby."
He looked at Siegfried: "Can we bring this ship ashore?"
Siegfried nodded, walked to the stern, and supported the bottom of the boat with one hand.
To Hiyori's astonishment, this sizable sailboat was propelled by Siegfried alone, sailing at an astonishing speed toward the shore of Zou!
Ten minutes later, the sailboat docked at a secluded bay.
Pedro led the group through the dense forest to a temporary camp of the Mink Tribe deep in the Western Forest.
There are several treehouses here, in a secluded location that is easy to defend and evacuate.
Duke Inuarashi and Nekomamushi were already waiting there. Clearly, they had learned of everything that had happened at sea from the sentries.
"The Kozuki family's girl—" Nekomamushi sized up Hiyori, then glanced at Nobunaga beside her, and clicked his tongue, "She's really brought a lot of trouble."
Inuarashi, on the other hand, was much more serious. He walked up to Hiyori and knelt on one knee.
"Your Highness, Zou will forever remember the covenant with the Kozuki family. You are safe here."
Hiyori's eyes reddened.
All the escape, fighting, and despair along the way finally found an outlet at this moment.
"Thank you—thank you all—"
"We can talk about pleasantries later." Nobunaga interrupted the touching scene, sitting casually on a rock and looking at Siegfried and Pedro.
"The question now is, what's next?"
He held up three fingers.
"First, Kaido's three-day agreement still has one day left."
"He will definitely send someone to Zou in a day, and this time it will probably be more than just a test."
"Secondly, the Blackbeard's men have their eyes on us. That Raven guy is clearly just the vanguard."
"That madman Marshall D. Teach, since he's interested in us, won't give up easily."
"Third—" Nobunaga's gaze swept over everyone present.
"The Holy Grail War. We are all participants. According to the rules, the red and black sides must ultimately determine a winner. And we—"
He drew a circle in the air with his finger, pointing to himself and Pedro on either side.
"The most troublesome thing is not even knowing whether you're on the red or black side."
Pedro frowned: "When I summoned them, I didn't receive any information about factions. Only the basic combat rules—"
"That might be because we were in the second group of participants," Hiyori said thoughtfully.
"The first Alabasta Grail War has established the basic lineups for both the Red and Black sides. We newcomers may need some kind of confirmation process."
Nobunaga crossed his arms: "The problem is, who will confirm this? Since that guy named Dilt started this war, there has to be someone enforcing the rules, right?"
Just then—
"BOOM!!!"
A deafening roar, far more violent than any of the previous explosions, came from the direction of the coast, and the entire Zou seemed to tremble!
"What is it now?!" The cat viper shopkeeper's fur stood on end.
The group rushed out of the camp and looked towards the coast.
In the morning light, a huge black warship was slowly approaching the shore.
The ship had an extremely unique design, with a roaring beast statue at the bow, a hull covered in heavy armor, and countless cannons along the sides that sent chills down one's spine.
But the most chilling thing was the person standing at the bow of the ship.
He was extremely burly, wearing a dark red heavy armor covered with scratches and dents from battle.
Her wild, long hair danced in the wind, and the scar on her face, running diagonally from her forehead to her chin, looked particularly ferocious.
He stood there with his arms crossed, and his mere presence exuded a suffocating sense of oppression.
"That's—" Duke Inuarashi's sunglasses slipped down his nose, "Douglas Barrett, the heir of the devil?!"
"Barrett? That former member of Roger's Pirates?" Pedro's voice was filled with disbelief. "Wasn't he imprisoned in Impel Down?"
"It seems the Holy Grail War has changed a lot," Siegfried said in a deep voice, his hand already gripping the hilt of his sword. "This person's aura—is very strong."
Barrett leaped from the bow of the ship and landed on the shore. The impact of his landing caused the entire beach to cave in, sending sand and gravel flying.
Then, he strode towards the interior of Zou, towards the direction where Pedro and the others were.
Every step they took shook the earth.
"He's coming for us." Nobunaga licked his lips, his eyes flashing with fighting spirit. "Interesting."
Barrett was incredibly fast, and within minutes he was already on the outskirts of the camp.
He stopped and scanned everyone present with his own light, finally fixing it on Nobunaga and Siegfried.
"Two heroic spirits—" His voice was deep and thunderous, "It seems it's you two."
"Who are you?" Pedro stepped forward, blocking the crowd. "What is your purpose in coming to Zou?"
Barrett glanced at him, as if he were an ant.
"Douglas Barrett. Here on the orders of Captain Dilt."
He took out a pure black badge from his pocket, which was engraved with a pattern of a sword and a gun crossed.
"In this war, all newly summoned Servants and Masters must confirm their faction affiliation upon their first encounter with the Arbitrator."
"That little girl Joan of Arc ran off to the first half, so I have to come back here."
Hiyori asked cautiously, "How can I confirm?"
"It's simple." Barrett tossed the badge into the air, where it hovered and began to emit a dark red glow.
"All you need to do is stand within the area of light and display your Command Seals. The badges will automatically determine whether you belong to the red or black team."
He paused, then added, "These are the rules set by Dilt. Anyone who doesn't follow the rules—I will deal with them personally."
The murderous intent in that last sentence made the surrounding temperature seem to drop several degrees.
Nobunaga and Siegfried exchanged a glance. Nobunaga shrugged: "Then let's follow the rules. We'll have to figure it out sooner or later anyway."
He stepped into the glowing area of the badge first, raised his left hand, and revealed the Command Seal.
"Heroic Spirit, Oda Nobunaga."
The badge's light swept over him, and after a moment, a mechanical voice rang out.
[Heroic Spirit detected: Oda Nobunaga]
Class: Archer
[Faction determination in progress————]
[Judgment Result: Red Team]
"The Red Team, huh? —" Nobunaga grinned. "Alright! Let's go head-to-head with Kaido!"
Next was Siegfried. He calmly stepped into the area of light: "Heroic Spirit, Siegfried."
[Heroic Spirit detected: Siegfried]
Class: Saber
[Faction determination in progress————]
[Judgment Result: Red Team]
All were judged to be on the red team.
Barrett put the badge away and nodded.
"Confirmation complete. Hiyori and Pedro, you two and your Heroic Spirits officially belong to the Red Team in the Holy Grail War."
"From this moment forward, you will be allies with the other Red Team participants in principle, and enemies with all Black Team participants."
"An ally in principle?" Nobunaga raised an eyebrow. "In other words, not necessarily a true friend?"
"The Holy Grail War is not child's play," Barrett said coldly.
"Fighting among members of the same faction is prohibited, but competition is allowed."
"In addition, as newly joined members of the Red Team, you have the right to know some basic information."
Barrett continued, "You may already know this, but as usual I'll say it again."
The names and information he then revealed caused both Hiyori and Pedro to gasp in shock.
They knew the Holy Grail War had changed the landscape of the seas, but they never imagined that so many powerful forces and individuals would be involved!
"Now you're part of this game too," Barrett said.
"By the way, you've already been targeted by multiple forces. Blackbeard's advance team is just the beginning, and—"
He looked at Hiyori: "The heroic spirit you summoned injured Kaido, and this has already attracted a lot of attention."
"Many people in the New World want to see just how powerful a Heroic Spirit is, capable of wounding that strongest creature. Or perhaps they can steal him away?"
Nobunaga scoffed, "They want to use me as a testing ground? Then let them try."
Barrett did not respond to Nobunaga's provocation, but instead said...
"My mission is complete. One last piece of advice: if I were you, I would leave Zou immediately."
Pedro frowned. "Zau is our home—"
"That's why you should leave," Barrett interrupted him.
"Kaido and Blackbeard's target is you and the Kozuki family girl, not Zou itself."
"If you stay here, you will only bring war to this land. Leave, and they will naturally come after you."
He turned to leave, but then stopped: "By the way, if you're looking for allies for the Red Team—"
"The Straw Hat crew has just left Fishman Island and is on their way to the New World. However, they are in the open, while you are in the shadows, so it won't be easy to make contact with them."
"Wait a minute," Hiyori suddenly said.
"Mr. Barrett, since you are Lord Dilt's man, can you tell us—why exactly did Lord Dilt initiate the Holy Grail War?"
This question silenced Barrett for a moment.
"I don't know—" He finally only said four words.
"That guy has been invincible on this sea for too long. He's changed. I've changed too."
Having said that, he leaped into the air and, in a few bounds, returned to the black warship. The warship slowly sailed away from the shore and disappeared into the morning mist.
Silence fell over the camp.
