Chapter 51 The Disappearance of Him
Chapter 51 The Disappearance of Him
"Click-clack click-clack...!"
The clicking sounds coming from all directions were the sounds of the mouthparts of the energy-devouring insects colliding, which filled almost the entire room.
It has to be said that the energy-devouring worms looked exactly like Jaeger's stereotype of alien insectoids. Seven or eight large and small crimson eyes were distributed on its head, with twisted tentacles, a thick carapace, and pincers covered with spikes. One of these things would be disgusting enough, but there was a whole bunch of them, and they all became active when Iron Man kicked open the door.
"Crack crack crack!" A power-devouring insect lying directly in front of him opened its mouth wide, but before it could move, Tony pierced its body cleanly with a single shot, causing it to twitch and fall to the ground.
The blood and carapace fragments splattered from this energy-devouring insect also awakened the swarm of energy-devouring insects nearby.
"Click click click..."
"Click click click..."
Countless swarms of energy-devouring insects, their crimson eyes enough to kill anyone with trypophobia, crawled toward Tony. Many of them had their mouths agape, their mouths filled with tiny, sharp teeth glowing a blood-red light.
This is exactly what Tony mentioned earlier: the small laser cannon used by the energy-devouring insect as a means of long-range attack.
"Not so easy, you bugs!" Tony swung his left arm to his chest, and a fluorescent blue energy shield immediately appeared, blocking all the light cannons sprayed from the mouths of the energy-devouring bugs.
Immediately afterwards, his right arm armor automatically retracted and deformed, and an energy light blade shot out, slashing out a fluorescent blue light in the air, instantly cutting off the heads of the energy-devouring insects that crawled in front of him like vegetables!
While Iron Man was fighting fiercely on one side, Jaeger on the other was also wielding a lightsaber—he had learned a little swordsmanship before, though not much, but it was enough to deal with a bunch of low-IQ bugs.
Moreover, lightsabers are revolutionary weapons with extremely high destructive power. Wherever they go, they can easily cut through the thick carapaces of those insects, splattering their blood everywhere.
"Sizzle—"
Jaeger chopped off the head of one of the energy-devouring insects with his sword, wiped the blood splattered on his face, and then kicked away the energy-devouring insect that was about to crawl onto his foot.
It was at this moment that Jaeger looked up and caught a glimpse of an ominous red light in his field of vision.
That was a scarlet light emanating from the mouth of a certain energy-devouring insect!
"boom!"
This attack came with overwhelming force, almost instantaneously, piercing through everything in its path in a flash!
"Landon!" Clark noticed this too, punching away one of the energy-devouring insects leaping down from above, and adding a final sword strike. "You..."
But Clark stopped mid-sentence.
The reason was simple: after the smoke and dust from the light cannon blast dissipated, Jaeger was nowhere to be seen.
The only thing left was a monster that was almost touching the ceiling of the room, with a long tongue and a mouthful of sharp teeth, seemingly formed from black and white mist.
"Where did this thing come from?" Tony also saw the creature and shouted as he blasted away several nearby energy-devouring insects with a single shot.
"I don't know either," Clark said blankly.
As a result, the monster seemed to notice Clark's gaze, widened the whites of its eyes, and then suddenly roared and charged straight at him!
"?!" Clark instinctively raised his sword, only to find that the other person's gaze seemed to pass over him.
"Don't get distracted at a time like this." A hoarse, deep voice brushed past his ear as the mist monster grabbed one of the energy-devouring insects behind Clark that was trying to launch a sneak attack with its light cannon. In the instant it exerted force, it crushed the energy-devouring insect's carapace along with its head!
With its head gone, it naturally couldn't spew out any light cannons, and the energy-devouring insect that tried to ambush from behind died a pathetic death.
"Thank you." Clark could tell the mist monster was trying to help him, but he couldn't help asking, "Landon..."
"Landon is my partner," the mist monster whispered. "I am the poison mist."
As he uttered those words, the black and white mist suddenly contracted like a tide, and Jaeger tumbled out of it. Upon landing, he raised his lightsaber again, slashing off the head of a nearby energy-devouring insect that was squealing loudly: "What are you standing there for? Kill the insects!"
Clark, who had been subjected to a series of worldview shocks in a short period of time and suddenly felt that being a Kryptonian was nothing special, was startled by what he heard and plunged his sword into the head of the insect at his feet.
The next few minutes were uneventful; the three of them simply continued to kill the energy-devouring worms in their own ways.
But as more and more insect corpses piled up on the ground, the energy-devouring insects' offensive showed no signs of abating—and the three people in the room gradually realized a problem…
"Why does it feel like we can't kill them all?" Jaeger couldn't help but complain. "There were this many when we first entered the room, and there are still these many now?"
"It is indeed quite strange," Clark said.
"..." Tony's rare silence finally subsided when he blasted one of the bugs with a barrage of hand cannon shots, and he suddenly spoke up, "I see."
"What?"
"Have you noticed that some of these energy-devouring insects are rather unusual?" Tony swiftly grabbed one and lifted it up, killing it with a single slash before it could even open its mouth and unleash its energy blast. "Like this one, it has four tentacles."
"Indeed." Only after hearing Tony's words did Jaeger notice this.
"Then I'll be blunt, these individuals will split," Tony said. "I just noticed that an individual with four tentacles keeps splitting, two become four, four become eight... If we don't kill all of these individuals, we'll just be worn down to death by the energy-devouring worms."
"But the problem is, we have to kill all the special individuals instantly, otherwise they'll split into new special individuals in the blink of an eye!"
"..." Upon hearing Tony's words, Jaeger couldn't help but frown—this was troublesome. They were already in a confined space, and it was also to avoid attracting the attention of the other people on the ship that it was inconvenient to use weapons of mass destruction.
But if they don't use it, how can they kill all the special individuals in an instant?
Just then, the voice of the poisonous fog suddenly rang out: "Landon."
"Hmm?" Jaeger snapped out of his reverie. "You've come up with a plan?"
"No..." the poison mist said, "I just meant, it all started when that guy named Tony Stark mentioned the special individuals—"
"Clark Kent has disappeared."
