Chapter 50: Misty Island
Chapter 50: Misty Island
The giant Dragonite placed Natsume and Meowth on the island and then disappeared, showing no fear that the two would escape.
Of course, Natsume didn't intend to take the opportunity to run away.
Judging from their interactions along the way, this giant Dragonite didn't seem to have any ill intentions; on the contrary, it seemed to want something from them.
"The air is so fresh, meow!"
Above its head, Meow Meow leaped down uncontrollably, looking at the scene before it, feeling refreshed.
"Waaah—"
The voice of a giant Dragonite could be heard from not far away, faint and indistinct.
"She's calling us over, meow," Meow translated.
"Let's go." Natsume took out his phone and glanced at it; it was already the next day.
As he walked, Natsume surveyed the area, which resembled a primeval forest.
The morning mist, like liquid silk, covered the skin, and the sound of footsteps soaked with moisture was swallowed by the moss.
The branches of towering trees pierced through the mist, and the spiderwebs, glistening with dew, trembled—a little boy in a lotus hat floated silently in a puddle ten meters away.
Unknown totem-like erosion marks appeared on the cross-section of the decaying wood, and the distant sound of a dream demon's bell was quantum entangled among the shadows of the trees.
Natsume's cell phone signal bar is forever stuck at the empty second bar.
"Shall we take this opportunity to run away?" Meow suddenly suggested in a low voice.
"No, her saliva contains pheromones. If you don't comply with her, you'll be found no matter where you run off to."
Upon hearing Natsume's words, Meow Meow was startled:
"Really, meow?"
"You can try peeing on your head; that might cover up the other person's drool," Natsume said, pointing to the gold coin on Meow Meow's head.
"Are you kidding me, meow?" As she walked, Meow felt the surroundings becoming increasingly deserted.
It tugged at Natsume's sleeve in fear:
"Hey, hey, hey, I'm serious. Now's the perfect time to run away, meow."
Natsume didn't say anything, but released Rotom and Gengar, who had lost their ability to battle, from their Poké Balls.
Two fragments of vital energy and two bottles of excellent healing potions were tossed into Meow Meow's hands.
"Give them treatment."
"And what about you, meow?" Meow looked at Natsume curiously.
"This place is quite old, and I feel it has great research value." As he spoke, Natsume took out his phone and started taking pictures of something around the area.
"Why should I work for you? Only Boss Banki has the right to order me around, meow!" Meow meow retorted, throwing the medicine that Natsume handed her onto the ground.
"Neither of us has much fighting power right now. If we encounter danger, we'll have no choice but to send you into battle."
The cat shrank its neck.
"Also, without Rotom, there's no teleportation, and we can't leave even if we want to." Natsume's voice came from afar.
Meowth picked up the medicine and dutifully treated the two Pokémon.
Before long, both the Mega Ball Rotom and Gengar regained consciousness.
"That scared me to death, meow!"
Meow wiped the cold sweat from her forehead. Natsume hadn't been around for the past few hours.
It and two other Pokémon that have lost their ability to battle are the only ones here.
The solitude of being alone in the deep mountains and forests, along with the strange cries that occasionally emanated from the surrounding area, kept it on edge.
"I didn't realize you were so timid. Didn't I give you something to protect yourself?"
The grass rustled, and Natsume emerged.
"What good is a brick, meow? Will it knock you out?"
Meow Meow flew into a rage and threw the brick that Natsume had given him before he left at her.
Natsume caught it steadily:
"Speaking of which, you seem to be different from ordinary cats; you don't seem to have much fighting power."
"Meow meow, I'm the strategist type, of course I'll leave the fighting to those two underlings!"
"Little brother?"
Natsume looked at Meow Meow strangely.
"Of course, Musashi and Kojiro are my little brothers, meow. I'm the one that Boss Itagi values the most."
"I recorded a video." Natsume put his phone away.
Meow Meow's face stiffened.
"You're awake?"
Natsume looked at Gengar and the Great Ball Rotom behind Meowth.
"Gengga!"
"Loto!"
The two Pokémon nodded to Natsume, but their voices sounded somewhat weak.
"Rotom, Heal Ball." Natsume pointed at Gengar.
A moment later, a Gengar that had almost fully recovered stood in front of the two.
"Gengga!"
Gengar struck a pose as if showing off its muscles, its voice booming with energy.
"Rotom, you should get some rest," Natsume said, retracting Rotom.
"Gengar, use Psychic to take us to that hill."
Natsume pointed in the direction the giant Dragonite had indicated earlier and handed Gengar a long, thin object made of shredded horseradish mixed with black sludge and rolled into shape.
"Gengga?"
Gengar looked at what Natsume handed it, unsure of what to do.
After thinking for two seconds, it was about to throw it directly into its mouth, but Natsume stopped it.
"Snap—"
Natsume pulled out a lighter from somewhere and lit it.
Gengar, without any instruction, tried taking a puff.
"Whoosh—" Gengar's round, red eyes suddenly widened, as if it had discovered a new continent.
"Gengga!"
Gengar stretched out its chubby little hand and gave Natsume a thumbs up, its eyes suddenly flashing with blue light.
"Hey, shouldn't the next step be to use teleportation to run away?" Meow Meow said anxiously.
But it had no chance to resist, and its body emitted a blue light.
The three of them flew into the sky and headed towards the mountaintop.
"I don't want to go, meow! Put me down!" Meow meow bared her teeth and claws.
"Gengar, put Meowth between those two arguing Nidoking and Nidoqueen."
"I want to go! I can be the translator!" Meow Meow hugged Natsume's head.
Soon, the group was able to see the entirety of the massive mountain range.
The mountain range is towering, estimated to be over a thousand meters high.
The giant Dragonite stood halfway up the mountain, and from a distance, it looked like a large temple had been built on the mountain.
After landing, Natsume looked around.
The trees here had long been uprooted by the giant Dragonite, and the ground was covered with gravel.
Of course, these are boulders for Natsume and Meow Meow.
"Gengar, I'm counting on you again." With that, Natsume handed over another one.
This time, he didn't need to light it; Gengar skillfully lit it with its own will-o'-the-wisp, took a deep breath, and exhaled!
After exhaling a puff of smoke, Gengar was full of energy.
Soon, the three arrived in front of the giant Dragonite, which was sitting upright on the ground.
Natsume glanced out of the corner of his eye and noticed a huge cave behind the giant Dragonite, which looked like its dwelling.
"Roar—" The giant Dragonite nodded at Natsume.
"She's calling us in, meow." Meow translates.
"Roar—"
"She said she has something important she needs your help with, meow," Meow continued.
Natsume's gaze darkened.
Sure enough, he was right.
But this is fine too. The system has just released a new S-level project, and we might be able to make progress here. It's good that he wasted a Master Ball.
Furthermore... Natsume is now very interested in why this giant Dragonite can maintain its Gigantamax form and possesses divine authority.
"Gengar!" Gengar suddenly grabbed Natsume.
Turning around, Gengar stretched out two fingers and put them to its mouth, indicating to Natsume whether it still had that thing.
"Hmm... I have the raw materials, you can make it yourself."
As he spoke, Natsume placed a lot of dried horseradish fruit, dried black mud, and some weighing paper for experiments on the ground.
"Gengar!" Gengar exclaimed excitedly.
When horseradish berries are dried and mixed with dried black sludge and burned, they release a very unique, pungent odor.
Natsume named this stuff "Spicy Mud".
Some Poison-type Pokémon are fascinated by these scents, which Natsume discovered by accident.
Seeing this, Natsume turned around and followed the heavy footsteps of the giant Dragonite into the cave.
