Marvel's Shendu: Dominating the Multiverse

Chapter 56 The Defector

Chapter 56 The Defector

"Master," Wanda's voice came from behind, "the coordinates of Tony's private nuclear missile silos have been compiled, as well as the military's malfunctioning silos."

The Holy Lord looked at the Chaos Magic floating in Wanda's hand. The magic was divided into dozens of grids, and some data was floating on each grid.

"Are you using chaos magic to create this table?"

Wanda lowered her head slightly, a hint of smugness on her lips: "This is faster. The brain controls it directly, no terminal is needed."

The Holy Lord was silent for a moment. He had seen countless exceptionally talented mages, such as Old Man, Lope, and Fang. But now it seemed that none of them were as talented as Wanda. If Wanda were in his world, those mages would be like children in front of her.

Holy Lord: "Don't move the launch silos for now."

Wanda's red light paused slightly, and the coordinates began to slowly rotate: "Why, if they're launching...?"

“Frey won’t,” the Holy Lord interrupted Wanda. “He’s a smart man. A smart man won’t waste resources on the same ineffective tactic a second time. He’ll try something else.”

Inside a secluded little room in New York.

Natasha sat in the chair opposite Fury, Steve stood beside her, and Clint squatted in the corner.

"The Sanctuary rejected our request." Fury's voice sounded as if it had been sanded smooth. "Those mages only care about the boundaries of dimensions; mortals are nothing more than ants fighting in their eyes."

Steve turned around, his face expressionless. "Perhaps we should try a different approach."

Fury looked at him with his only remaining eye: "There is a way. I've already called for reinforcements. She's not on Earth right now, and it will take her some time to get back."

Natasha began, "Director, I hope you're not just trying to comfort us. Do you know who our enemy is right now? It's a devil who eats nuclear bombs like snacks. We look like we're on a massacre."

Fury's voice turned cold: "Are you doubting me and suggesting I surrender?"

Natasha corrected her, "I'm just suggesting you survive. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s mission is to protect humanity, not to be wiped out to prove something. Besides, Shendu doesn't seem to be targeting mortals right now."

Fury said, "I admit there's some truth to what you said, but that doesn't mean I'll accept it. S.H.I.E.L.D. never backs down; that's a principle."

"Principles cannot bring the dead back to life; we've already lost too many people." Natasha responded, "Director, principles should be revised according to the actual situation."

These words were like a knife, piercing Fury's heart precisely; those people died because of him in a sense.

The room fell silent again.

Fury leaned back in his chair, closed his single eye, and looked much older than before. "You guys go back first. I need to be alone."

Steve and Natasha stood up, glanced at Fury who was embedded in the chair, said nothing more, and turned to leave. Clint chose to stay there in case something happened to Fury.

As the door closed, Natasha and Steve's figures dissolved into the shadows.

"report."

The voice of the Holy Lord came from the throne, with Wanda standing respectfully beside him.

Natasha and Steve knelt down cleanly and efficiently: "Master, Fury's condition is approaching a critical point. The Sanctum Sanctum has rejected Fury's request. Those mages believe that the conflicts of mortals are not worth paying attention to."

Shendu's eyes narrowed slightly. He calculated the time and realized that Gu Yi was indeed unable to free herself at the moment.

Steve picked up where Natasha left off: "The Sanctum Sanctum didn't discover our identities, and they couldn't detect the energy of the Monkey Talisman."

"Wang searched through books all night and finally concluded that you are not a demon."

The Holy Lord scoffed at the King's conclusion: "He only studied it all night and came to this conclusion?"

Wanda, standing nearby, echoed Shendu's words, "Master, when you were absorbing the nuclear bomb's energy, the rat below was that person named Wang, wasn't it? He must have been terrified. A frightened person always finds a reason to reassure themselves."

Wanda looked at Shendu, her eyes filled with undisguised fanaticism: "Demons are just the most terrifying things he can imagine. For someone of your noble status to call you a demon is nothing short of blasphemy."

Natasha, still kneeling, looked at Wanda's fanatical eyes and was certain that if the King called the Holy Lord a demon, Wanda would rush towards the Sanctuary the next second.

"Does Fury have any other plans?" the Holy Lord asked.

Natasha: "He mentioned reinforcements, but the enemy isn't on Earth and it will take time for them to return."

Shendu nodded. He had already detected Fury's signal. With Captain Marvel's speed, even a distance of several light-years would only take a day to return to Earth.

It now appears that Captain Marvel is farther from Earth than he thought.

"Keep a close eye on Fury. Make sure he doesn't commit suicide. He needs to become a burden on the reinforcements he summoned," the Holy Lord commanded.

"Yes."

Steve and Natasha agreed, and their bodies vanished as shadows.

"Owner."

After the two left, Wanda asked, "You could have directly controlled Fury using the Mind Stone or my magic, why did you go through all this trouble?"

The Holy Lord said calmly, "Wanda, do you know the difference between playing chess and whack-a-mole?"

Wanda: "Mental labor versus physical labor?"

"Whack-a-mole is about hitting it as soon as it appears, winning in the moment and losing in the future. But in chess," the Holy Lord raised a finger, and a cluster of stars appeared in front of him, marked with countless glowing dots, "you win the whole game before your opponent even makes a move."

With a flick of his finger, Shendu magnified the star map, revealing a striking blue planet: "Fury is a variable. Captain Marvel has some kind of connection with Fury. If I directly control Fury, she will sense it."

The Holy Lord clenched his fists, and the planet before him vanished: "If Fury made the decision 'freely,' then what she saw was an anti-human being."

Wanda lowered her head, her voice trembling with excitement: "Master, I am willing to become your pawn."

The Holy Lord laughed and said, "You are not a chess piece. Chess pieces are things I use and then discard. You are someone who will stay with me until the end."

Wanda looked up abruptly upon hearing the words of the Holy Lord, her eyes slightly red, her lips moved but she said nothing.

An abandoned church.

Fury pushed open the rusty door. The church was pitch black inside, with pews piled up to one side and the carvings inside unrecognizable.

"You've come." An aged voice came from the darkness.

Fury remained calm and stood still: "You received my message."

A hunched figure emerged from the darkness, dressed in a gray robe, his face wrinkled but his eyes unusually clear: "I'm not sure if I can help you."

Fury laughed, "You're joking. You're a defector from Kamar-Taj, and what I need is your unbound power."

The middle-aged man laughed: "Fury, do you think leaving Kamar-Taj will allow me to do whatever I want?"

Fury: "You just need to help me get my attention for two days."
