Chapter 9 The Ring
Chapter 9 The Ring
The next day, Vega took Monica on a yacht to the open sea and showed her the equipment he had spent eight months building in the deserted waters.
This is a full-body heavy armor set crafted from a mixture of vibranium and uru, coated with a galactic glaze, boasting incredible defensive capabilities, the ability to reflect damage, and the ability to fly and survive in space; a long-handled double-headed hammer crafted from a mixture of carbana alloy, which suppresses life force, and uru; and an accessory crafted from uru and World Tree branches, which enhances physical attributes, physical and magical attack damage, and physical and magical defense.
There are some things Vega didn't mention, but all the equipment used a lot of auxiliary materials, which depleted Vega's resources by more than half, and his strength has almost returned to its peak.
"Don't worry about me, no one on Earth can really hurt me." Vega took Monica's left hand and placed a pure white ring with a pair of golden wings painted on its surface on her ring finger. Ignoring Monica's tearful face, Vega coughed lightly, trying to appear calm, and continued, "This ring has powerful healing properties, and it also has a 100-cubic-meter storage space inside. A drop of your blood on it will..."
"I do, I accept your proposal!" Before Vega could finish speaking, Monica pounced on him and kissed him.
......
While Vega was enjoying some time alone with his partner, news of his return had already reached all his clients, and many immediately boarded planes to New York.
"He's finally shown up." Nick Fury breathed a sigh of relief at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Trident headquarters in Washington, D.C.
He had always been wary of Vega, but only recently did he realize how painful it was to live without Vega's help.
During the eight months Vega was missing, it was certainly not just the two things Monica mentioned that happened.
Two weeks after Vega disappeared, in addition to Gwen becoming Spider-Girl, New York also gained a black, humanoid monster that eats people.
The monster first appeared in Brooklyn, and then it attacked Monica, who was staying at a resort hotel.
Wearing a more protective amulet and using an uncastrated fire potion, Monica easily defeated the monster. Unfortunately, she was not good at fighting, so the monster, who was clearly afraid of fire, escaped.
The incident occurred at night, and only hotel staff and some guests witnessed the fight.
The matter was easily concealed, preventing it from having a greater impact.
Afterwards, Bana, Gwen, and S.H.I.E.L.D. began investigating the monster. They fought it several times and, although they didn't capture it, they did find out more about it.
The monster is afraid of the loud noise of flames. It feeds on humans, its body is liquid and can stretch more than ten times its original size, and it can also change into various forms.
The monster appears to be a highly intelligent parasitic creature, and the person it has parasitized is named Eddie Brock.
Eddie Block was originally a reporter for the Globe and the same reporter who covered Vega taking fish from Monica's fishing box a few months ago.
Under pressure from Vega, S.H.I.E.L.D. used Monica's name to get the Globe to delete the video and news report. The newspaper's owner also fired Eddie Brock in order not to offend Monica.
It is unknown how Eddie Brock became entangled with the parasite, but based on several encounters, he was not completely controlled by the parasite, but rather had a considerable degree of autonomy.
The monster can heal itself and Eddie Brock's injuries by eating, and it hunts several people each time it is injured to recover.
Bana and Gwen have to go to school, so S.H.I.E.L.D. is the main force in searching for the monster. But after being tricked a few times, the monster has become smarter and has hidden in the sewers and won't come out.
The situation inside New York's sewers is extremely complex. Most of the sewers have existed for decades or even centuries, and many structural blueprints have been lost, making the chances of finding a target there extremely slim.
Furthermore, the sewers are filled with swamp gas, making firearms and electrical appliances unusable. Going down to search would be like handing food to the monsters.
Several months passed, and the monster did not show itself. According to intelligence, it controlled many people inside and was living a very comfortable life.
Yes, there are people in the sewers, and a lot of them.
The sewers have become a self-contained society, where homeless people, gangs, and illicit businesses have made it their haven and paradise.
The law of killing is followed there, which is a very important factor in why S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't send anyone in.
The monster was a minor nuisance and wouldn't cause much of a commotion. As long as it didn't come out, Nick Fury didn't really want to deal with it. What bothered him was something else entirely.
A few months ago, a magical hammer fell from the sky into New Mexico, followed by appearances from Norse mythology: Thor, Sif, the goddess of harvest, the Warriors Three, and Loki. Thor even nearly died on Earth.
The incident occurred in a small town and did not affect the outside world. However, when the identities of Thor and others were confirmed, and Thor, who had lost his divine power, was killed by the terrifying magical armor sent by Loki, the top leaders of the five major countries, who learned of the news through satellites and on-site agents, were so frightened that they almost ordered a global war effort.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife sparked World War I. If Thor had died on Earth, it would have triggered an even more terrifying war between humans and gods.
Although the person who killed him was Loki, his brother who was vying for the throne, politics is universal. Loki would never admit to killing his brother; instead, he would definitely pin the blame on humanity and might even launch a war against humanity under the pretext of avenging his brother!
Fortunately, Thor regained his divine powers and came back to life, leading Sif and the Warriors Three back to Asgard to deal with Loki.
He left, but the five major powers and S.H.I.E.L.D. did not think the danger was over. Although they abandoned the idea of global preparedness, the armies of the five countries and the combat forces of S.H.I.E.L.D. went on high alert.
This situation lasted for two months. High-ranking officials in other countries and ordinary people around the world who were unaware of the inside story thought that Season 3 was about to begin. Chaos broke out in many parts of the world, and the economy almost collapsed.
Having waited in vain for any eventuality, and seeing the chaos unfolding around the world, the five major powers gradually lowered their war preparedness levels.
Several months have passed since the Thor incident, but everyone in the know is still shaken. They all feel that if Vega had been there, they wouldn't have been worried at all even if Thor had been smashed to pieces.
