Chapter 464 Variable Engine
[Variable engine loading...3...2...1...]
Activation successful! Welcome to the High-Dimensional Variable Operating System
The system interface before Lin Ye's eyes had completely changed. The originally simple data panel had transformed into a flowing stream of golden light, and information poured directly into his consciousness.
"Variable engine?" Lin Ye muttered to himself, "What is this thing?"
The variable engine is the foundational architecture of the observer technique, used to manage and intervene in the timeline's development. The current version is a cracked version with limited functionality.
Vegeta interrupted impatiently, "Hey! What are you muttering to yourself about again?"
Lin Ye raised his head, his eyes flashing with data: "I may have found a way to fight back. Bulma, I need to use your lab's supercomputer."
Bulma immediately vacated the control panel: "Use it freely! Need any help?"
"Not for now." Lin Ye placed his hand on the interface. "System, connect to the computing network and begin the variable parsing engine function."
[Start parsing... Compatible interface detected nearby: Trunks]
Lin Ye was taken aback: "Trunks?"
Just then, Trunks suddenly opened his eyes and sat up. His pupils flashed with a data-driven light similar to Lin Ye's: "Variable Engine... I have one too."
Everyone was stunned. Bulma was the first to rush over: "Trunks! How are you feeling?"
“Never been this good, Mother.” Trunks smiled. “The Time Toxin not only didn’t kill me, but it also activated something within me.” He looked at Lin Ye. “It seems we are the same, the ‘Seed’.”
Lin Ye frowned: "You knew all along?"
“I just realized it.” Trunks raised his hand, and a golden stream of data appeared in the air. “When I was dying, a large number of memories flooded into my mind—including basic knowledge of the Observer.”
Vegeta crossed his arms and scoffed, "So what's going on now? You two have become the same kind of monster?"
“Quite the opposite.” Trunks shook his head. “The Observers implanted ‘observation terminals’ in us, but we unexpectedly gained control. Now we are the vulnerability in their system.”
Number 18 astutely noticed something: "Can you monitor the observers in reverse?"
Lin Ye and Trunks exchanged a glance and nodded simultaneously.
“Theoretically, it is possible,” Lin Ye said, operating the interface, “but it requires a lot of energy and computing power.”
Bulma's eyes lit up: "Energy is not a problem! The time crystal my dad left behind can still be used. Although it's unstable, the output is sufficient!"
Vegeta suddenly thought of something: "If you can monitor the Watchers, can't you also find their weaknesses?"
Trunks nodded. "Every system has a backdoor. The problem is finding it."
The laboratory suddenly shook violently, and an alarm sounded: "High-dimensional spatial fluctuations detected! Multiple targets are approaching!"
Lin Ye sneered: "It seems the observers don't want to give us time to study this."
Silver Fox appeared in the center of the laboratory, but this time she looked extremely disheveled... her uniform was torn, and her face was injured. Behind her were six warriors in black armor, the armor etched with eerie spiral symbols.
“The Reaper Squad…” Trunks said gravely, “It seems the Observer is serious.”
Silver Fox spoke with difficulty: "Lin Ye...they've taken control of me...I'm just a puppet now..."
A Reaper stepped forward, its armor emitting a low voice: "Variable Lin Ye, Variable Trunks, you have been identified as dangerous elements. Surrender immediately, or you will be eliminated."
Vegeta immediately switched to Super Saiyan mode: "If you want to fight, then fight! Stop talking nonsense!"
Number 18 silently stood beside him, and the weapon in his arm began to charge.
Lin Ye raised his hand to stop them: "Wait." He looked at the Reapers, "Are you the Observers' henchmen?"
“We are the maintainers,” the Reaper replied, “to ensure the experiment proceeds as planned.”
Trunks suddenly interjected: "Experiment plan number T-9527, the purpose is to test the timeline's tolerance to major variables, right?"
The reaper paused noticeably: "How did you know...?"
“Because I am Trunks, a time anomaly,” he smiled, “and also one of the administrators of your system… now.”
All the Reapers' weapons were simultaneously aimed at Trunks: "Cease the invasion immediately!"
Lin Ye's eyes shone brightly: "Too late. System, activate the variable engine with the highest privileges! Override their control protocol!"
[WARNING: Attempting to override the Reaper control protocol requires enormous energy...]
"Use the Time Crystal!" Bulma shouted, having already activated the energy transmission device.
Silver Fox suddenly struggled and shouted, "Watch out! They have..." Before she could finish speaking, her body suddenly froze and then began to disintegrate.
One of the harvesters withdrew his hand: "The excess should be removed."
Lin Ye roared, "You even kill your own people?"
"If the tools are broken, just replace them with new ones," the harvester said emotionlessly. "Final warning: Cease resistance."
Vegeta had already charged out: "Warning you my ass!"
In his Super Saiyan form, Vegeta was incredibly fast, landing a punch on the chest of the leader of the Reapers. But the blow, powerful enough to shatter a mountain, only sent the Reaper sliding back a few meters.
"Physical attacks are ineffective." The Reaper raised his hand, and Vegeta was suddenly pressed to the ground by an invisible force. "Time Imprisonment."
The energy cannon fired by Number 18 at another Reaper was equally ineffective.
“Energy attack ineffective.” Another Reaper waved his hand, and Number 18’s movements suddenly slowed down dramatically. “Time deceleration.”
Lin Ye and Trunks acted simultaneously. Golden data streams surged from their bodies, resisting the Reaper's time control.
“Bulma! Now!” Lin Ye shouted.
Bulma pressed the button, and the energy of the Time Crystal surged into Lin Ye and Trunks' bodies through a special device. The data flow within the two instantly increased several times.
[Power sufficient, initiating control protocol coverage...10%...]
The harvesters visibly tensed up: "High-dimensional interference detected! Eliminate variables immediately!"
The six Reapers launched their attack simultaneously, and time became chaotic. In some areas of the laboratory, time accelerated, in others it slowed down, and in still others it even began to loop.
Vegeta found himself going through dozens of cycles of getting up and being suppressed within a single second. Android 18's energy cannon kept switching between firing and not firing.
Only Lin Ye and Trunks remained stable amidst the temporal chaos, protected by the Variable Engine.
"Coverage reached 50%!" Lin Ye shouted. "Trunks, give me a hand!"
Trunks placed his hand on Lin Ye's shoulder, and their data streams merged: "Use this! The time paradox algorithm!"
Lin Ye's eyes lit up: "Smart!"
He pushed his hands forward, and the golden data stream formed complex geometric shapes: "Try this! Self-Existence Denial Protocol!"
The Reapers suddenly froze, their armor blaring a piercing alarm: "Warning! Existential crisis detected! Time anchor unstable!"
The leader of the reapers was horrified to find his hands beginning to turn transparent: "What have you done?"
"I'm just reminding you of a fact," Lin Ye sneered, "If the timeline doesn't exist, what's the point of your existence as 'maintainers'?"
Another Reaper tried to intervene, but Trunks stopped him: "Don't interrupt the show."
When the coverage reached 100%, the harvesters stopped moving at the same time, and the red light in their eyes went out.
[Control protocol coverage complete. Reaper units are now integrated into the variable engine.]
Lin Ye let out a long sigh of relief, almost collapsing to the ground. Vegeta and Android 18 also returned to normal, warily watching the now motionless Reaper.
"Is it... over?" Bulma asked cautiously.
Lin Ye nodded: "For now. We have control over these Reapers, but the Observers will definitely send more."
Trunks examined the Reaper's system: "Interesting... I found this in their database."
A holographic projection displays a coordinate and a point in time... "Earth, Age 784, May 12, Xidu."
"What is that?" asked Number 18.
“A crucial experimental point for the observer,” Trunks said gravely. “And the deadline is tomorrow.”
Vegeta frowned: "What is the experiment?"
Lin Ye pulled up more data, and his expression suddenly changed: "They plan to trigger a time rift, wiping out life in half the galaxy... just to test the timeline's self-repairing capabilities."
There was dead silence in the laboratory.
“These lunatics…” Bulma murmured.
A resolute glint flashed in Lin Ye's eyes: "Then let's give them an unexpected experimental result."
He looked at the six controlled Reapers: "First, we need to send the Observer a 'everything is normal' report."
But in a corner where no one was paying attention, a Reaper's finger twitched slightly, indicating that the control protocol had not fully taken effect.
Vegeta walked up to Lin Ye and stared into his eyes: "What exactly are you two now?"
Lin Ye met his gaze: "We're still on the same side, that hasn't changed. It's just that now we have the ability to fight back against the observers."
Trunks added, "The variable engine allows us to see changes in the timeline, and even influence it to some extent. But we are not observers; we are still on Earth's side."
Number 18 asked coldly, "How do you prove it?"
Lin Ye sighed and pointed in the air. A holographic screen unfolded, displaying a record: "This is a record about androids in the Observer's database. They originally planned to have the androids reawaken in three years to destroy more cities."
Number 18 looked at the records, his expression changing slightly: "These bastards..."
"Do you believe it now?" Lin Ye turned off the screen. "We have the weapons to fight the Observers, but that doesn't mean we've become them."
Bulma walked over to Trunks, looking at her son with concern: "This variable engine... how does it affect you?"
Trunks hugged his mother: "I'm still me, Mom. I just have more knowledge now, and I can see things I couldn't see before."
Vegeta was still frowning, but his tone softened slightly: "So what do we do next? How do we stop that experiment tomorrow?"
Lin Ye brought up the holographic interface: "First, we need to understand the specifics of the experiment. Trunks, can you retrieve more information from the Reaper's database?"
Trunks nodded, his hands manipulating an invisible interface in the air: "Searching...Found. They plan to place a device at the underground time anomaly point in the Western Capital to trigger a local time rift. Theoretically, this rift will expand rapidly, engulfing everything around it."
"The exact location?" Bulma asked.
“300 meters underground in the central square of the Western Capital,” Trunks replied. “There is a natural time anomaly there, which the observer marked many years ago and now intends to activate.”
The person on the 18th raised the question: "Why choose tomorrow?"
"Because tomorrow is the peak of the time tide," Lin Ye explained. "Time energy is most active, and the effects of their devices will be amplified several times over."
Vegeta clenched his fist: "Then let's just go and smash that thing!"
