Chapter 14 Treasure Land and Schemes
Chapter 14 Treasure Land and Schemes
Mana regeneration speed increased by 50%.
Lin Mo couldn't suppress the urge to smile.
"Let's go!" he said, feigning seriousness to avoid letting the black man see through his act.
Meanwhile, the Black man was still processing the news about the "hero from the sky."
"By the way, my name is Daniel!" The black man leading the way seemed to have figured things out and started chattering away.
"Brother, you have no idea how well hidden that treasure chest was." He gestured as he walked, "It was in an abandoned underground parking lot. The entrance was mostly blocked by a collapsed GG sign. If I hadn't seen a blue light shooting out from the crack, I would never have found it."
Lin Mo followed behind him, his eyes scanning the surrounding streets and alleys.
Jenova walked in the middle of the group, longbow already in her hand, arrow nocked. Hammer, shotgun in hand, vigilantly observed both sides. Twenty-two skeleton soldiers spread out in a fan shape, protecting the entire group in the center.
The three little devils hopped and skipped along at the very back, making squeaking noises.
"What kind of creature guards the treasure chest?" Lin Mo asked.
"Not entirely sure." Daniel scratched his bald head. "It's made of some kind of stone, gray, with wings, and it flies very fast. I took five men with me before, but we were driven back before we even got close, and two of my brothers died."
Gargoyle.
Lin Mo immediately made a judgment: the core role of the Tower faction's Tier 2 unit is "flying meat shield," primarily used to protect the main ranged Tier 2 creatures in the early game. They are fast and can fly. Ordinary firearms are not very effective against them, and they are out of reach in close combat. For ordinary humans, they are indeed a formidable opponent.
But for Lin Mo, this was not a problem.
"Besides you, how many other people know about this treasure chest?" Lin Mo asked.
"There shouldn't be many." Daniel thought for a moment, "Besides, that area is too dangerous. Besides gargoyles, there are other monsters. Ordinary people wouldn't dare go there. As for the few with military forces... the gangs have their own territory and haven't expanded there yet."
Lin Mo nodded and didn't ask any more questions.
The two continued walking, passing through a narrow alley, and came to a relatively open area.
The buildings here were even more dilapidated than the previous area, with collapsed walls and broken glass everywhere. There were obvious signs of burning in the streets, and the ground was blackened by soot. A faint smell of sulfur filled the air, as if something had been burned here.
Lin Mo frowned slightly.
The smell of sulfur is a characteristic of Hellhound creatures. The Hellhound's lair that Daniel mentioned earlier should be nearby.
"It's over there." Daniel pointed to a crooked building not far away: "The treasure chest is in the underground parking lot of that building."
Lin Mo looked in the direction he was pointing.
The building was a three-story mixed-use commercial and residential building. Several large cracks had appeared in the exterior walls, and the "GG" sign on the roof was teetering on the verge of collapse. The ground floor consisted of shops, most of the glass doors of which were shattered, leaving the interiors dark. Next to the building, an overturned truck blocked the ramp leading to the underground parking lot, leaving only a narrow gap.
Lin Mo didn't rush over.
He raised his binoculars and carefully observed his surroundings.
Next to the commercial and residential building is a corner park. In the park, there is a pavilion, and next to the pavilion is a pile of ashes, as if something had been burned. Around the ashes grow several strangely colored plants with black leaves and red thorns on their stems.
Mutant plant, a secondary organism.
It will not attack unless you get too close, but you will get entangled in its vines.
At the entrance to the underground parking lot is a two-lane road.
Right at the intersection of the entrance and the road, there were several gray shadows, motionless like sculptures.
Gargoyle.
There were at least three, and there were shadows and cover around them, so the actual number may be more.
Lin Mo put down the binoculars and began to quickly assess the situation in his mind.
Even assuming there are three gargoyles, and without attracting the nearby mutated plants, there are still other monsters that might be present. The danger level of this area is higher than he anticipated.
But the treasure chest is right in front of us, so we should try to get it if we have the chance.
In addition, the value of the surrounding area itself was greater than he had anticipated.
Lin Mo's gaze swept across the surrounding streets and alleys; he had carefully observed them on his way here.
There is a timber resource point here, about 300 meters to the southeast.
There are even stone resource points, about two hundred meters to the northwest.
These can be quickly identified through certain characteristics, and at present, only Lin Mo has this kind of experience.
Besides that, there's something even more important here.
Underground gold mine resource point!
Lin Mo's gaze fell on the slightly raised, cracked open space behind the commercial and residential building.
There was nothing there except for soil that looked like it had been bulged up by an earthquake and a few crooked utility poles, but Lin Mo knew that beneath that open space lay a gold mine.
Because he had just noticed that there was a creature hiding over there.
Kobold!
Kobolds are primitive, cave-dwelling creatures that prefer to stay underground, especially in areas with gold mines. When he passed that clearing earlier, he saw several kobold footprints—small, three-toed, with claw marks.
Where there are kobolds, there's a high probability of finding gold mines.
This is an ironclad rule in the gaming world.
Lin Mo's lips curled up slightly.
Timber resources, stone resources, and gold mines—the three most important basic resources—are all located within this area of less than 500 meters.
This is not all.
Lin Mo's gaze continued to move, landing on a building further away.
It was a gray stone building, its exterior walls covered in vines, looking like some kind of ancient ruin. At the top of the building was a circular dome, on which was carved a skull motif.
Cursed Temple (Skull Conversion Site).
The building for recruiting skeleton soldiers.
This is a Tier 1 unit building that can recruit a fixed number of skeletons each week. Although the number is small, it is stable and not limited by the source of corpses.
Lin Mo's breathing quickened for a moment.
Buildings for recruiting timber, stone, gold, and skeleton soldiers.
This area was practically tailor-made for him.
He's determined to have it.
"Daniel," Lin Mo said.
"Hey bro," Daniel said, leaning closer.
"You said before that no force had yet occupied this area?"
"No." Daniel shook his head: "It's too dangerous here. Ordinary people don't dare to come. Those forces with military strength are either developing in their own territory or busy seizing easier places. Nobody wants to come here to die."
Lin Mo nodded.
That makes things easier.
"Let's put the treasure chest aside for now." Lin Mo put away his binoculars. "I need to take a look at the overall situation of this area first."
Daniel paused for a moment, then asked, "You didn't come here to get the treasure chest?"
"The treasure chest isn't going anywhere." Lin Mo turned and walked southeast. "But if we don't figure out the surroundings first, even if we get the treasure chest, we might not be able to take it out alive."
Daniel thought about it and agreed that it made sense, so he obediently followed.
Lin Mo led his team on a quick tour of the area along the street.
He spent more than an hour getting a general idea of the terrain, buildings, and monster distribution in this area.
After walking around the area, Lin Mo's evaluation of it rose even higher.
The area is rich in resources, has moderately strong monsters, and is not dominated by any powerful faction.
Give him a few days, and he can clean this place up completely and turn it into his own territory.
