Chapter 33 Slaughter All the Dogs in the World
Chapter 33 Slaughter All the Dogs in the World
Chen Yuebai's already emaciated body became even more withered at a visible speed, his skin clinging tightly to his bones. In just a few breaths, all of his pure internal energy, along with some of his life essence, was devoured by Russell, turning him into a dried corpse that looked like it had been dried for many years.
Russell released his grip, and the dried corpse collapsed to the ground with a thud, raising a few specks of dust.
Quiet.
A deathly silence.
After a brief period of deathly silence came utter collapse.
"Run! Run! Go back and report to the elders!"
Upon seeing their leader dead, someone shouted first, and the remaining twenty-odd people instantly collapsed, no longer caring about their fellow disciples, and scattered like birds and beasts.
Actually, it's not their fault. Russell always knew that if people gathered not because of faith or a common great goal, but because of interests—gathering when there's profit and dispersing when there isn't—it would just be an empty shell, and in the end, nothing would be surprising.
This branch was more like a criminal gang that engaged in shady dealings by binding together interests than a branch of the Beggars' Sect.
They usually bully others by relying on the Beggars' Sect's influence and their ruthless methods. But once they face annihilation, the inevitable outcome is that their followers will scatter when the tree falls.
Of course, Russell wouldn't let these Beggars' Sect members who had scattered and fled so easily.
The giant sword rose again, and Russell began to flash among the crowd. Every time the sword light shone, someone would fall down with a scream.
The only problem is that he hasn't learned any large-area AOE skills yet. Unless the other side is courting death, he really can't kill them all if they scatter like this. He can only try his best to strike with his sword. The sword light flickers, leaving behind seven or eight more corpses.
In the end, the entire branch was littered with corpses, but a dozen or so people managed to escape.
These people, relying on their familiarity with the terrain, either climbed over walls or crawled through dog holes, and Russell really couldn't do anything about them.
But it's not a big problem, they're just some low-level thugs with no real martial arts skills.
After cleaning up the mess, Russell found the skinny monkey who was hiding to the side, trembling and trying to shrink into the cracks in the rocks. He pulled him out of the artificial hill like a chick.
Skinny Monkey is now starting to wonder if he's dreaming.
He had originally been looking forward to seeing how Russell would be hacked to death by the branch leader, but he never expected that this ruthless star would be so incredibly fierce, single-handedly wiping out an entire branch of the Beggars' Sect.
Russell rested the giant sword on the skinny monkey's shoulder, grinned, revealing a set of pearly white teeth: "So, do you know where the girls and children you kidnapped are being held?"
The skinny monkey shuddered, his unfocused gaze fixing on Russell's smiling face, a smile that seemed more terrifying to him than any demon from hell.
"I...I know! I know!" He nodded hurriedly, like a chick pecking at rice. "Young hero, spare me! I'll take you there right away! Right away!"
Following the skinny monkey, Russell arrived at another, larger artificial hill deep in the courtyard.
"Click... Rumble..."
The skinny monkey activated the mechanism, and with a click, a stone slab at the base of the artificial hill slowly moved away, revealing a downward-extending opening. A chilling wind, mixed with the smells of mold, rancidity, and a faint fishy odor, rushed out of the opening.
"Young hero, this is it... there's a passageway below leading to the dungeon." The skinny monkey's voice trembled.
Russell gestured for the skinny monkey to lead the way, and the skinny monkey dared not disobey, so he went into the cave first. Russell followed behind with his sword in hand, descending the steep stone steps. On the walls on both sides of the passage, there was a dim oil lamp every so often, the light barely illuminating the ground beneath their feet.
As they descended, the air grew increasingly stuffy and polluted, with faint sounds of suppressed weeping and groaning emanating from within.
After walking about a hundred steps, the space suddenly opened up ahead, revealing a huge underground space.
This is the branch's dungeon.
In the dim light of the torches, one could see that the dungeon was divided into more than a dozen cells of varying sizes by thick wooden fences, most of which were filled with people.
Because the secret chamber was very soundproof, the shouts of killing outside did not seem to reach them. There were still four guards in the dungeon, drinking and gambling around a small table, cursing and swearing.
According to the skinny monkey, women and children are subjected to initial training here, using intimidation, beatings, and starvation to destroy their will and make them numb and obedient.
Russell initially felt sorry for the women, but when his gaze swept over the cells near the entrance, an unprecedented rage erupted in his chest like a volcano!
The cells contained mostly young children, around ten years old.
Some children had their hands and feet severed, their wounds haphazardly wrapped in dirty strips of cloth, pus and blood oozing out; some had their ears or noses cut off, leaving ugly scars on their faces; some were covered in whip marks and burns; and some had their legs twisted at bizarre angles, clearly having been brutally broken and left untreated…
They huddled in a haystack in the corner of the cell, their eyes vacant and numb, like soulless puppets, unresponsive to Russell and the skinny monkey's appearance, their bodies trembling slightly without their awareness.
You beasts! A bunch of damned beasts!
Russell's hand, gripping the sword, bulged with veins. He exhaled softly and walked toward the four guards.
Upon seeing Russell, a stranger, a burly guard slurred to his feet, cursing, "Who the hell are you? How did you get down here? The leader has ordered that unauthorized personnel are not allowed to enter... uh!"
His response was a flash of sword light and two crisp sounds.
His legs were cleanly severed below the knees! Blood splattered everywhere!
"what!"
The agonizing scream had barely left his lips when he was kicked in the mouth, his teeth spitting out a mixture of blood and saliva, turning his scream into a whimper.
The other three guards were terrified, sobering up considerably. They hurriedly grabbed the knives and clubs around them, but Russell's sword flashed incessantly. With three muffled thuds, the arms of the three guards holding their weapons were simultaneously severed at the shoulder. The three screamed and rolled to the ground, their blood instantly staining the ground red.
Russell did not kill them immediately. Instead, he threw them and the one-legged guard together like trash, leaving them to wail on the ground.
The piercing screams echoed through the silent dungeon, finally startling the numb children and women.
One of the girls, whose face was bruised, asked, "Did you come to rescue us?"
But before Russell could answer, she was pulled back by another woman beside her.
The dungeon was enormous. Russell surveyed the area and found that in addition to the children, there were more than twenty pretty women and seven or eight children around three or four years old. They were rather haggard and had signs of being beaten, but at least their limbs were intact, clearly indicating that they were being sold as high-quality goods.
