"To be honest, Umbrella definitely has people in the Raccoon City Police Department and the Raccoon City Government. I don't care about Zhou Ye and me being 4.6, what I'm afraid of is you idiots with an overly strong sense of justice harming me, him, and my friend Busujima."
Her tone was flat, yet it sent a chill down one's spine.
Saeko Busujima simply wiped her long sword quietly, the blade reflecting the red emergency light, seemingly indifferent to their conversation, yet also as if she had everything under control.
Jill and the others nodded. Umbrella's establishment in Raccoon City was a significant step. Umbrella's current president, Spencer, agreed to build an underground research facility in Raccoon City, a small town in the United States. Back in 1968, half a century had passed by now, in September 2018 (referring to the timeline of this world's copy card, not the original work). The town had grown into a metropolis with a population of millions. It was impossible to count how many people had benefited from Umbrella.
The investigation report upon returning could not tell the truth; it could only contain vague and deceptive statements to fool the people of Umbrella.
Hopefully, Zhou Ye really did delete the data and information.
【Ding--】
The elevator arrived at the designated arena, and the metal doors slid open slowly, letting in the chaotic scene of the arena outside and a clearer alarm.
The faint roar of helicopters could be heard overhead.
Chapter 38 The Trio with Altered Memories
The elevator doors slid open, revealing a chaotic scene in the arena.
The alarm blared even louder, and the red lights flashed wildly.
The deafening roar of a helicopter overhead grew ever closer.
Zhou Ye stood not far away, and the huge black monster [T-101 Venom Hanged Man] had disappeared without a trace.
He had a relaxed expression on his face, as if he had just completed a trivial task.
The T-100 Talking Tom vehicle stood quietly behind him, its cat-like electronic eyes scanning the group of people who had just come out of the elevator.
"Yo! The heroes of STARS, and my teammates, they've all come out?"
Zhou Ye went up to him with a warm smile on his face.
Chris and Barry looked at Zhou Ye, then at the T-100 Talking Tom vehicle behind him, their expressions complicated.
The events that had just transpired in the research lab were still reeling from their shock.
"Mr. Zhou Ye..."
Chris began, trying to organize his thoughts to ask a question.
"Oh, don't worry about the details."
Zhou Ye waved his hand, interrupting them, his smile unchanged.
"It's good that everyone is alright; being alive is a victory." 07
He took a few steps closer and stood in front of Chris, Barry, and Jill.
Nami and Saeko Busujima stood a little further back.
Nami crossed her arms, her expression unchanged.
Saeko Busujima gripped her knife, watching Zhou Ye's movements.
"Yes, it's good that you're alive..."
Jill breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Zhou Ye.
"Thank you, Zhou Ye. And...you..."
She didn't finish her words.
Zhou Ye moved too quickly.
Without warning, he pulled a strangely shaped sprayer from his pocket.
The cat-head shaped nozzle was pointed at the three people in front of it.
【Pfft——】
A mist with a strange, sweet scent wafted out and enveloped Chris, Barry, and Jill.
Caught off guard, the three inhaled the mist and froze in their tracks.
His eyes became somewhat blank.
Zhou Ye held up the [Memory Modification Spray Cat Head Limited Edition], and his voice rang out clearly:
"You experienced a terrible biohazard in the mansion today."
"Along the way, you fought hard and, with your extraordinary courage and skills, eliminated many zombies and Lickers, and even defeated Umbrella's experiment - Tyrant."
"Throughout the entire process, you did not encounter any supernatural forces that cannot be explained by science, no transforming chariots, no lightsabers, and no summoned creatures."
"You only survived by relying on STARS training and your teamwork."
Zhou Ye's voice carried a certain guiding quality.
Chris, Barry, and Jill, their eyes vacant, nodded mechanically like marionettes.
"Yes."
"That's it."
"We...destroyed the tyrant."
Their voices were flat and emotionless.
Saeko Busujima stood behind and witnessed everything.
Her expression didn't show much surprise.
On her way back, she had already anticipated that Zhou Ye might take some measures.
After all, Zhou Ye's stuff was too shocking.
Deleting some memories is indeed a gentler approach than killing someone to silence them.
She even found the method somewhat interesting.
"Teacher Zhou."
Saeko Busujima spoke, her tone inquiring, "Do I... need to come here too?"
Zhou Ye put away the sprayer, turned to look at her, and shook his head.
"No, Miss Saeko, you don't need it."
He explained:
"As long as you don't talk nonsense. You came from the Demon Slayer Corps and have seen things like Blood Demon Art, so your ability to accept it is definitely much stronger than that of ordinary people."
"Besides, you're not the kind of person who talks a lot, and I believe you won't go around gossiping."
He looked into Saeko Busujima's eyes.
"But these three elite police officers in front of you..."
He pointed to Chris, Barry, and Jill, who were still in a daze.
"They are the kind of people who are extremely responsible and always want to get to the bottom of things."
“If we let them return to Raccoon City with their memories of the T-100 and T-101, report to their superiors, or investigate on their own... that would be a real problem. Umbrella would be watching me, and even the American military might use me as a research subject.”
"I don't want to kill people to silence them, after all, they're not enemies."
Zhou Ye shrugged.
"So, this is the only way we can use, a slightly more friendly approach."
Saeko Busujima shrugged slightly, indicating her understanding.
She recalled her experiences in the Demon Slayer Corps.
Ordinary people who fought ghosts, survivors who witnessed supernatural powers.
"understand."
"The Demon Slayer Corps also has personnel specifically responsible for handling the aftermath."
"Some of the victims, after learning about the situation, either the victim or their family members choose to join the Demon Slayer Corps to fight demons."
"Some, however, simply want to return to a peaceful life, or... even want to become ghosts."
"For the latter, erasing the relevant memories is a way to protect them and the organization's secrets."
Nami listened silently, a barely perceptible smile playing on her lips.
[Memory manipulation? That's quite a convenient ability. But Teacher Zhou's methods are really getting more and more sophisticated.]
Zhou Ye nodded and said:
"We'll discuss the details when we get back."
He looked up to the sky.
The roar of helicopters was already close at hand, and huge beams of searchlight swept across the ruined ground of the arena.
"The helicopter is about to land. Prepare to evacuate."
The propellers whipped up huge gusts of air, making it almost impossible for people to stand.
A helicopter bearing the STARS logo slowly landed in the relatively flat area in the center of the arena.
The hatch was pushed open.
Bradwix was in the driver's seat, leaning out with a look of shock and relief on his face.
At the cabin door, a blonde girl in a white lab coat, who looked somewhat young, was waiting anxiously.
It's STARS' team doctor, Rebecca Chambos.
She saw Jill, Chris, and Barry and immediately called out:
"Jill! Chris! Barry! Are you alright?"
Her gaze then fell on Zhou Ye, Nami, and Saeko Busujima, filled with doubt.
"And who are these three...?"
As the helicopter landed and Rebecca shouted, the effects of the [Memory Modification Spray] seemed to begin to wane.
Or rather, Zhou Ye was released from continuous control.
