Chapter 80 Moretti's Family
Chapter 80 Moretti's Family
As evening approached, before the sun had completely set, Klein and Melissa, who had been attending classes all day, appeared at the door of their rented house almost simultaneously.
Smelling the aroma of food wafting from inside, the two asked each other in unison, "Did you cook this?"
"I just got home." ×2
"Benson!" x2
The two quickly opened the door and immediately saw Benson sitting at the dining table, where steaming food was laid out.
When Benson saw the two return, he quickly said, "Come on, today we're having 'Lamb Stew with Peas'."
"I specially bought the best tender lamb today. Using the method you taught me, I stir-fried onions and carrots together, then added pre-soaked peas and simmered it over low heat for several hours before it was just taken out of the pot."
Hearing Benson's words, Klein and Melissa exchanged glances, then simultaneously made a strange expression on their faces.
But perhaps because they hadn't eaten meat for a long time, the two of them forced themselves to eat the dinner despite feeling uncomfortable.
But after the meal, Melissa still offered her suggestion, saying, "Benson, you're so busy every day, you're already tired enough. After get off work, you can just rest at home. Leave cooking to Klein and me."
Looking at the two people in front of him, Benson felt gratified from the bottom of his heart and explained, "It's mainly because I got off work too early today and didn't have much to do, so I made dinner."
"Oh, and I also brought gifts for you two."
After saying that, Benson took two bags from his and Klein's room and said, "I bought these based on my previous memories, roughly guessing your models. You can try them on first, and if they don't fit, I can replace them."
Looking at the bag Benson was carrying, Melissa asked doubtfully, "Is there clothing in here?"
After hearing Melissa's words, Benson nodded and then pushed the bag forward, gesturing for her to take it.
After Melissa took the bag from him, Benson reminded her, "Melissa, why don't you try these on? I was just worried that the clothes I bought for you wouldn't fit."
Then he turned to Klein and said, "Klein, you should try on your clothes too. Even though we're similar in size, we might not be able to fit."
After the two took the bag of clothes, they returned shortly afterward. Melissa asked doubtfully, "Benson, we probably don't have the money to buy clothes like this."
"Where did these...come from?"
Benson glanced at Klein and Melissa, noticing their tense expressions. He sighed, patted them on the shoulder, and explained, "I'm heading to Morse Town tomorrow. These clothes were bought with the 'clothing allowance' Amos gave me. Don't worry, it'll be fine."
After hearing his explanation, Klein and Melissa relaxed slightly and asked curiously, "Aren't the 'winter relief packages' usually delivered by a special person? Why are they going to Morse town this year?"
Benson paused for a few seconds, as if choosing his words carefully: "I don't know either, but going to Morse town tomorrow isn't to pick up the 'winter relief package.' Count Altair wants to see me."
Standing to the side, Klein asked curiously, "Shouldn't the nobleman in charge of Morse Town be Baron Sheffield? Has the territory changed hands?"
Benson shook his head and explained to the two, "The land in Morse has not changed owners. Count Altair is the daughter of Baron Sheffield. She inherited the family's property and title after her father's death."
"But I don't know how he was promoted from baron to earl. As you know, such things are usually not told to commoners."
Benson then added, "But we have a history student in our family, Klein. Has anything like this ever happened in history? What are the usual causes?"
Klein thought for a moment and explained to the two of them, "There are many such cases. They are usually due to holding an important official position, noble marriage, expansion of territory, and so on."
"But as you just said, Altair is the daughter of Baron Ashfield, so based on her age, she should only be a little older than Melissa."
"Then the possibility of marriage alliances and holding important positions can be completely eliminated; it's impossible that it's for that reason."
"Given the Sheffield family's special status, I suspect it's due to their military achievements, because if a nobleman performs exceptionally well in war, the king usually rewards them by elevating their rank."
.........
Time flew by as the three chatted gossiped. The nightlife of ordinary people in this world was so monotonous and dull. After dinner, they either passed the time chatting or went to sleep.
After all, gas lamps aren't cheap, so every little bit saved counts. Of course, if you're a nobleman, that's a different story; nobles don't need to worry about being noble or the cost of a night.
After Melissa opened her mouth and yawned, she said to the two of them, "I can't go on anymore, I need to go to sleep."
Benson and Klein nodded and said, "Then let's wash up and go to bed. Our chat tonight is over."
"Melissa, you go to the restroom first."
Melissa stretched, nodded slightly, and said, "Yes, I will as soon as possible."
Then, as if remembering something, she reminded Benson, "Benson, you haven't prepared a gift for Count Altair yet, have you decided what to bring tomorrow? Do you want us to help you with some suggestions?"
After hearing Melissa's reminder, Benson shook his head and explained, "Don't worry, I've already decided what gift to prepare."
Looking at Benson's appearance and considering his personality, Melissa hummed in agreement and left, heading to the restroom.
The next morning, after seeing Klein and Melissa off, Benson left the rented house with a gift box.
It cost 7 soules to find a coachman willing to go to the town of Morse.
After a half-hour journey, the carriage finally arrived at the town of Morse.
After getting off the bus, Benson walked towards Sheffield's castle while asking for directions.
Upon arriving at the castle gate and explaining his purpose, Benson was greeted and led to the reception room.
Old Clayton, after Benson had just sat down, also entered the drawing room to fulfill his duties as butler and entertain the guest.
