Chapter 311: The battle
Chapter 311: The battle
"What do we do now, Nina?" Keil asked grimly.
At this point, all of the males had unconsciously begun treating Nina as the center of the group—their anchor in the darkness.
"Stay close to me," Nina instructed calmly. "No one separates. Keep your shields activated at all times."
She handed the powerful explosive weapons she had used earlier to Aviel, Idir, Keil, and the others, quickly explaining how to operate them.
"We’ll each guard a different direction. The moment those creatures open their mouths, throw the weapons straight inside."
After observing the creatures, Nina realized their bodies were incredibly durable. She was not confident that the explosives would kill them if thrown externally. Their mouths, however, were clearly a weak point.
"Understood."
The males immediately moved into formation.
Nina’s vines remained wrapped around all of them, connecting the group together like lifelines.
Moments later, the creatures finally reached them. They split into several groups and silently surrounded Nina’s party.
Then, without warning, one group attacked.
Idir, who was guarding that direction, reacted instantly and hurled an explosive directly into the creatures’ gaping maws.
BOOM.
Two of them were obliterated immediately. The remaining creatures flew into a frenzy and launched a coordinated assault.
Nina gave a cold, almost disdainful smile.
Together with Aviel and the others, she swiftly wiped them out.
These things possessed a trace of intelligence, but only barely. They definitely were not beastmen.
Even after the strange creatures were exterminated, no one dared relax their vigilance.
"Let’s keep moving," Nina said.
The group continued forward through the abyss at high speed until they reached a vast underwater rift.
The instant they approached the canyon, a swarm of grotesque creatures burst out from within and charged at them.
The monsters were horrifying.
Their mouths were grotesquely oversized, taking up most of their heads, lined with two rows of densely packed razor-sharp teeth. Their eyes were hollow and lifeless, while long tails trailed behind thick bodies covered in dark gray-black scales.
They looked like nightmares born from the depths of the ocean.
"Nina," Keil warned, his expression grave, "these sea demon beasts are extremely dangerous. One of them is especially terrifying—a massive one with a very high rank. Even I couldn’t defeat it."
His eyes darkened.
"But if we join forces, we may be able to kill it."
Nina glanced toward the swarm. "It hasn’t appeared yet."
"It’s probably deeper inside," Keil replied. "Once we kill these smaller ones, it should come out."
"Alright."
The battle erupted instantly.
The sea demon beasts were indeed powerful, but with Nina’s shields and advanced weapons supporting them, her group currently held the advantage.
Then suddenly, a colossal shadow surged toward them from the depths.
The entire seabed trembled as enormous rocks shattered in its wake, the sound echoing heavily through the water.
"Nina," Keil said solemnly, "it’s here."
Nina looked up. A monstrous sea demon beast emerged from the darkness. It was dozens of times larger than the others—nearly a hundred meters long. Its gigantic body blotted out the dim light of the abyss like a moving mountain.
Before anyone could fully react, three additional sea demon beasts—slightly smaller but still enormous—appeared behind it.
Keil frowned. "Why are there three more...?"
His expression became increasingly serious.
"These three are probably extremely strong too. I don’t know if Lani and the others can handle them."
Then he turned to Nina. "We kill the largest one first. After that, we’ll deal with the others."
Nina nodded. "Alright."
She had no way of accurately gauging the giant beast’s true strength, so trusting Keil’s judgment was safest.
Immediately, Nina and Keil joined forces against the massive sea demon beast.
Meanwhile, Lani teamed up with Aviel, Idir, and Lex to confront the three smaller giants. The remaining males battled the lesser monsters.
The waters of the abyss shook violently from the clash. Dark blood mixed with a foul, rotting stench spread rapidly through the ocean currents.
The three smaller giant beasts proved terrifyingly powerful.
Even Aviel and the others began struggling under the relentless assault.
Lani had just barely dodged the sweep of a massive tail when another attack came crashing toward him—a gigantic maw lined with rows of jagged teeth.
He instinctively tried to retreat, but he was a fraction too slow.
As the enormous mouth lunged toward him, filling his entire vision, Lani’s pupils contracted violently.
For one terrifying instant, his mind went completely blank.
Just as the beast was about to swallow him whole, a vine shot through the water like lightning, wrapping tightly around his body and yanking him away.
The monstrous jaws snapped shut on empty water.
Lani’s back turned cold. He had nearly died. If Nina had reacted even a second later, he would already have become food inside that creature’s stomach.
Throughout the battle, Nina had been keeping part of her attention fixed on Aviel’s side.
The moment she sensed Lani in danger, she moved without hesitation.
She turned toward Keil beside her.
"Grandfather, go help Lani and the others. They won’t be able to handle those sea demon beasts alone. Leave this one to me."
Keil hesitated briefly before nodding.
"Alright. Be careful, Nina. I’ll return as quickly as I can."
He had seen the situation himself and was deeply worried about Lani’s group.
"Go," Nina said calmly. "I can handle it."
The giant sea demon beast was indeed terrifyingly powerful, but she was not without confidence.
Keil nodded once before immediately rushing toward the others.
At this point, he no longer doubted Nina’s strength. Had he not witnessed it with his own eyes, he never would have believed that a female could surpass an ancient warrior like himself.
The colossal sea demon beast tried to pursue Keil, but Nina intercepted it.
The creature turned toward her in fury, launching an even more savage assault.
This hateful beastman had hurt it again and again. It wanted to devour her alive.
Nina remained utterly fearless. Her vines burst through the dark water, binding around the creature’s enormous body while her star blades stabbed repeatedly into its flesh.
But the beast’s regenerative abilities were monstrous. No matter how many wounds she inflicted, none of them seemed truly fatal. She needed to find its weakness.
Nina narrowed her eyes and observed carefully. Soon, she noticed something.
The beast guarded a spot beneath its head far more protectively than the rest of its body. A suspicion immediately formed in her mind.
Could that be its weak point?
She did not hesitate further. It was worth trying.
Nina slowly gathered the power within her body. Her supernatural abilities and the power of the stars began converging together.
At the same time, the merfolk pearl inside her body suddenly responded to her call, releasing its own energy into the growing storm.
The surrounding ocean erupted violently.
Currents spiraled wildly as an overwhelming force burst from Nina’s body.
Before her, an enormous blade of pure energy condensed into existence.
Everyone froze. The males and even the sea demon beasts instinctively turned toward Nina, their movements momentarily halted by the terrifying pressure radiating from her.
Nina’s eyes sharpened with icy focus. Then she drove the massive energy blade downward with all her strength—straight into the spot beneath the giant beast’s head.
The sea demon beast released a shrill, agonized scream.
It thrashed violently, sensing death for the first time as it struggled desperately to escape Nina’s restraint.
But Nina gave it no chance. Her expression remained cold as she struck again without mercy.
Another devastating blow pierced its weak point.
The beast screamed once more. Then its struggles gradually weakened. Its enormous body slowly went limp before sinking lifelessly into the depths.
The remaining sea demon beasts immediately scattered in terror and fled.
At last, the ocean fell silent once more.
Keil stared at Nina in complete shock.
Nina is far too powerful...
She had single-handedly killed the monstrous sea demon beast that even he could not defeat.
Aviel, Idir, and Lex looked at her with unconcealed pride. Their Nina was truly extraordinary.
Meanwhile, Lani and the other males swallowed hard.
Nina’s strength was honestly terrifying.
After dealing with the sea demon beasts, they continued following the direction of the sacred artifact until they arrived at a gigantic underwater cavern.
The cave was eerie and unnatural.
Countless tunnels branched off in different directions, twisting endlessly into darkness.
Nina tried releasing a detector, only to realize Little Bun had suddenly gone dormant.
She guessed the cave’s magnetic field was interfering with the system.
Aviel frowned as he studied the maze-like passages.
"Nina... with so many tunnels, which way should we go?"
