Chapter 19 Eyes
Chapter 19 Eyes
Chloe: !
She had completely forgotten about it; all her attention was drawn to her parents' sudden visit, and she had no time to try and cover up the lie.
And how is she supposed to explain this? She can't just leave the perfectly good guest room unused and let her parents and Navelette sleep on the sofa, can she?
Just thinking about it made Chloe think it was outrageous.
However, having brought this up, she had to consider another matter—where would Violet sleep tonight?
The thought of her parents getting up at night and running into the Supreme Judge who was still awake, the three of them staring at each other, made Chloe feel like she was going to faint.
No! This absolutely cannot happen! Violet absolutely cannot stay on the sofa tonight!
But what should she do?
Because Chloe never expected the Durands to come looking for her, when she bought the house, she only considered that Aurélie might come to visit. Therefore, the house only has one master bedroom and one guest bedroom.
Chloe had planned to give him the guest room this morning, and if he asked, she would say that she had cleaned out the storage room where she used to store things. But her parents' sudden visit completely disrupted her plans, and there were no extra rooms left.
She bit her lip and pondered, so engrossed in her thoughts that she completely forgot about Navisette, who was still waiting for her answer.
Until a pair of hands cupped her face—
Navelette had somehow gotten up from her chair.
Due to the limited space, the two stood very close. Originally, one was sitting and the other was standing, so it wasn't noticeable, but as Violet stood up, the barely perceptible sense of spaciousness vanished instantly.
Especially when the guy who was two heads taller than her looked down at her, he happened to block the light above her head, casting Chloe into a shadow.
"Ms. Chloe, what are you thinking about?"
The backlighting blurred the expression on his face, making only his vertical eyes appear extremely bright, giving Chloe the feeling of being stared at by a wild beast.
She couldn't help but take a step back.
Navelette paused, as if finally snapping out of some strange state, and quickly released her, distancing herself from her: "I'm sorry, Ms. Chloe, did I startle you?"
As he said this, he didn't even dare to look at her anymore, afraid that he would frighten her again.
Navelette knew that people avoided him, especially when faced with those eyes that didn't look human at first glance.
His status as an outsider was always the chasm between him and ordinary humans.
Navelette rarely lost control like this, but just now, when Chloe was lost in thought, those beautiful blue eyes were clearly looking at him, yet they didn't actually land on him...
He didn't like this feeling.
So he reached out, trying to get Chloe's attention back, but he didn't expect to scare her.
Feeling annoyed, Violet lost interest in pursuing the matter further. She hastily repeated an apology and prepared to leave.
Chloe, however, had already recovered from the recent turn of events and quickly grabbed his hand: "Lady Vilette!"
Navelette didn't turn around, but she did stop walking.
Chloe had no choice but to squeeze past him and walk around to the front of the man.
Navelette still didn't look at her, avoiding eye contact to prevent their eyes from meeting again.
But Chloe persisted, cupping his face in the same way, guiding him to look at her, and then, when their eyes met, she broke into a big smile: "Oh my, isn't this beautiful! I really didn't know it before!"
Navelette was taken aback.
"I know! It must be because Lady Vilette is so beautiful! So beautiful that I couldn't believe the person standing in front of me was real, which is why I took a step back! Ugh, it's all Lady Vilette's fault!"
The man was even more confused by the man's act of turning the tables, but he still instinctively wanted to apologize.
But before he could speak, someone stuck a finger into his mouth.
"But you don't need to apologize~" Chloe squinted, looking like she was hatching a plan. "If you stay with me all day, I'll forgive you—"
She pulled Navelette's hand closer, tilted her head, and pressed her cheek against it to rub against it.
Just like the group of kittens that Violet had longed for for so long, which would follow Funina's footsteps.
However, unlike those kittens that will unconditionally become affectionate with anyone they're fed, Chloe only becomes affectionate with him...
Navelette's eyes darkened as he stared intently at her.
But this time Chloe was no longer afraid. Her smile remained bright and cheerful, and she even reached out to touch his eyes: "Speaking of which, that touch of blue at the corner of Lady Vilette's eye is really beautiful. Did you paint it yourself?"
I never expected Villette to do something like this.
However, speaking of which, someone's outfit is always very exquisite, whether it's the half-up braid at the back or that elegant bow.
Chloe could even picture him drawing eyeliner on himself in front of the mirror every morning.
She was suppressing a laugh and didn't realize she was standing too close.
Their shadows almost overlapped, elongating under the lamplight.
Navelette wasn't sure if such a close distance was normal; he only felt a tickling sensation on his chest from Chloe's breath as she spoke.
But the Supreme Judge's attire was so thick that it was impossible for the girl's breath to actually touch his chest, and he couldn't even be sure if the itching was real.
He could only lean back slightly, unaware that this movement exposed his bright red neck to Chloe's view.
He didn't notice Chloe's eyes widen for a moment, and continued answering her question with difficulty: "No, my eyes have always been like this, perhaps it's just my natural form..."
"The real form?" Chloe finally looked away, curiously asking, "Right, speaking of which, what race is Lady Vilette?"
Even though they've known each other for so long, he's never mentioned it before.
Moreover, she seemed to have never seen eyes as beautiful as those before. If we were to compare them in terms of hair, the most similar one would probably be the little sea otter, with the same white fur and the two most striking blue strands.
Navelette had no intention of hiding it from her; he hadn't brought it up before simply because he felt it was unnecessary.
He was about to reveal his identity as the Water Dragon King when he suddenly heard a slight noise from not far away.
Chloe heard it too, and wondered if the little sea otter was hungry and had run out to find something to eat. She turned around in confusion, only to find that it was her unreliable parents!
The Durands were covering their eyes with their hands in unison, but the gaps between their fingers were so wide that it was clear they were trying to hide something, offering no real protection whatsoever. Their actions were clearly visible to everyone.
"Dad! Mom!"
