Chapter 04 The Fate of Kamar-Taj
Chapter 04 The Fate of Kamar-Taj
The sky was overcast, and it looked like it was about to rain at any moment.
Looking dejected, Qin Wuying pushed open the glass door of the library and went outside.
He has been searching here for a whole week, but still has found nothing.
Even worse, he didn't have an identity document called an "ID card," which severely limited his access to food and accommodation.
"Boss, two hot dog buns, please."
Only in small street-side shops like the one in front of me will the shopkeepers not ask me to check my identity.
Fortunately, Loki didn't go too far and deposited a certain amount of money into Qin Wuying's personal account in advance.
If you don't have an ID card, how does your account function?
Qin Wuying found it somewhat amusing.
Furthermore, all transactions in the city now rely on the online system developed by Stark Industries, and almost no one continues to use cash.
"Sir, you look somewhat familiar."
Just as Qin Wuying was sitting in a chair in the shop, munching on bread, the shop owner suddenly said this.
"Really? I bought cookies from you yesterday too."
"I don't recall that, but look," the shop owner pointed to the television—
"You look exactly like the person up there."
Qin Wuying shifted her gaze from the food in her hand to the emergency program that was being broadcast.
"Repeated, repeated. Here is a bounty notice."
Beneath the large red characters for "Fugitive" was Qin Wuying's angular face.
"Me? A fugitive? Impossible!"
Even with eyes wide open, the host's words remained unchanged:
"This man, surnamed Qin, previously broke into Stark Tower and has escaped. A reward of 50,000 trading points will be given to anyone who reports him."
Didn't Stark Industries already let us off the hook? Why are they now relentlessly attacking us?
Moreover, the reward amount is ridiculously high; you should know that two hot dogs only cost sixteen points.
Wait a minute, doesn't that mean in the shop owner's eyes I'm just a walking 50,000?!
Qin Wuying slowly turned her head, only to meet the shop owner's guilty look.
"Since I've made two purchases, will you report me?"
"No, please rest assured, my most valued customers are repeat customers."
The chubby shop owner chuckled sheepishly while rapidly tapping the screen of the cash register computer with his right hand.
"So what are you clicking right now? Emergency call?"
"No, please don't worry, I'm just checking today's bills."
It was autumn, but the shop was inexplicably hot, and large beads of sweat rolled down the shop owner's face.
"Then don't try to hide it from me!"
Qin Wuying suddenly rushed forward, jumped over the counter, and pressed her face against the computer.
"Emergency dialing completed. Your coordinates will be sent to the Yood City Police Department and Stark Security Department."
A female voice, generated by artificial intelligence, emotionlessly recounted the actions that had just been performed.
"No, please don't worry, sir. It's just talking nonsense. I'll teach it a lesson right away."
As he spoke, the shop owner stretched out his finger, ready to press the power button.
"Smack—!" A few drops of sweat landed on the screen, reflecting Qin Wuying's tightly furrowed brows.
The two looked at each other simultaneously and blinked.
"Don't kill me, waaaaaaaah!"
The shop owner panicked and used his slightly overweight body to shove Qin Wuying aside, then fled through the back door.
"Hey! Stop running around like that! I need to get out of here too!"
Qin Wuying quickly followed, wanting to slip away through the back door like the shop owner.
Just a few seconds later, the door was locked from the outside.
"What? The door can't be opened from this side!"
His current mood is no less anxious and frustrated than that of a gamer who spends ages trying to find their way around only to discover that the door can't be opened.
Left with no other choice, he broke down the front door and randomly chose a direction to escape in.
However, after running for only a few minutes, the sirens of the police patrol team came from behind.
A feeling of despair welled up within me.
Having lived in this city for a short time, he understood very well that everything here was controlled by the Stark Group.
Whether it's municipal affairs, public security, or various information about citizens.
Escaping their pursuit was virtually impossible.
Qin Wuying consciously walked through the busy streets and distanced herself from the patrol team.
They must escape the pursuit before the drone swarm arrives.
On his very first day in this world, he experienced firsthand the power of these technological creations.
"Phew... I should have shaken them off now."
After many twists and turns, he finally ran into a secluded alley. Qin Wuying hid in the shadows, listening to the patrol's movements as they receded into the distance.
"Hey, who the hell are you?"
Before we could even catch our breath, new dangers emerged.
It was only then that Qin Wuying realized that besides himself, there were three other people in the alley who were wearing black robes and whose faces were not visible.
One of them questioned him, while simultaneously conjuring a small red magic circle in his hand.
"He looks like an ordinary person. Kill him to avoid future trouble."
Another man in black robes coldly gave orders to his companion.
Seeing this, Qin Wuying quickly took out the heavy ancient book from his cheap backpack, opened it, and pointed it at the three of them.
"This is an ancient artifact called the Wordless Oracle. Once activated, it can separate your heads from your bodies."
"Uh, I've never heard of it, but it doesn't look fake..."
The exquisite cover design, intricate magical patterns, and the rare blue gem at the very center stunned the man in black robes.
They didn't completely believe it, but they dared not act rashly.
"Bang!—Bang bang!"
Just as the three hesitated, a steel whip came down from the sky and struck them hard on the back of the head.
They then collapsed to the ground, it was unclear whether they had fainted or died.
A black man dressed in dark green clothes, wearing magic boots, and with dreadlocks descended from the sky and landed in front of Qin Wuying.
"Mo...Modu?!"
The Black man frowned, a hint of disbelief in his eyes. "You actually know me?"
Qin Wuying did indeed know Mordo. He had seen him in several movies and comic book commentaries, and knew that Mordo was stubborn and inflexible, and often didn't get along with Doctor Strange.
"Hehe, I understand."
Upon noticing the ancient book Qin Wuying was holding, Mo Du suddenly smiled with relief.
"What do you know?"
"You are the important fugitive that the Supreme Being mentioned."
"I swear this is a misunderstanding, I really didn't break the law."
"Whether it's a misunderstanding or not, get up and get yourself ready. I'm taking you somewhere."
Modu's smile was neither particularly kind nor malicious.
Qin Wuying noticed that the other party kept examining his treasure, so he thought that perhaps the mage could unlock the secrets of the wordless book.
To put it another way, given his current strength, wherever Mordo tells him to go, he can only go.
"Venerable Modu, may I ask where we are going?"
"What do you think? It's naturally the stronghold of mages."
Mordo grabbed Qin Wuying's arm tightly and used the super-strong jumping power of his magic boots to leap into the air.
The scenery of Kamar-Taj gradually appeared in Qin Wuying's mind and was about to unfold before his eyes.
