Chapter 5: The Insects Break Free from Their Cage
Chapter 5: The Insects Break Free from Their Cage
The cracks in the ground had lessened, many of the surrounding trees had returned to normal, and he could move his body again, but he knew he had lost.
"What kind of illusion is this?" He asked his last question before he died, the answer he most wanted to know.
Aburame Shichen stood not far from him, not answering him directly, but instead raising her hand and releasing a small insect. The insect looked like a stink bug, without wings, and quietly rested on Aburame Shichen's fingertip, looking somewhat listless.
Kurenai Yuhi received no answer and was completely annihilated by the insects, leaving not even a bone behind.
This master, hailed as a genjutsu expert by Konoha, was defeated, even by the very genjutsu he was most skilled at. He died without ever understanding why he had lost.
After defeating his opponent, Aburame Shisei did not linger. He collected the insects he had gathered around him, formed hand seals, and a floating pad made of floating insects reappeared beneath his feet as he flew away into the distance.
Soon, he will completely leave the forest and escape Konoha's surveillance range, at which point his defection will be considered a true success. But it's almost time now.
Konoha is currently engaged in war on all sides, and most of the top experts are on the battlefield. There are not many experts left in Konoha, and he did not have any particularly outstanding performance in the early stages.
Based on his understanding of the Third Hokage, he knew that the Hokage wouldn't come after him personally; this Kurenai Yuhi was probably his final opponent.
What he used to defeat Kurenai Yuhi wasn't a true illusion, but rather a special pheromone emitted from the wingless, bug-like creature on his chest.
When Shinku Yuhi engages in close combat with him, this pheromone will adhere to his body and then enter his body through respiration.
These pheromones have a very faint scent, undetectable to most ninjas except those skilled in tracking. They don't interfere with chakra; instead, they act directly on the brain's nerves, severing the brain's pathways to visual illusions. By the time one feels unwell and experiences hallucinations, it's already too late.
At this point, combined with his unique B-level illusion technique, he would create the impression that the other party was under an illusion, when in fact they were poisoned.
A hallucinogenic toxin that accumulates and lies dormant within the body, only to be activated in conjunction with specific illusion techniques.
The insects in the illusion were half fake, but the other half actually happened to him, so he felt pain.
It doesn't have to be painful, but the secretions from the worms can reduce the pheromone effect of the worms.
The wind whistled past my ears, and the forest below rushed past. Soon, the forest came to an end, and in the distance lay fields and villages.
Aburame Shisei looked down at the receding direction of Konoha, feeling no lingering attachment, only a sense of relief.
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew by, and the green rice stalks swayed in the field, carrying a faint fragrance of grass and rice, which brushed against You Nu Zhicheng's face and lifted his long hair.
The sun was shining brightly, and the damp mist had dissipated. He untied his headband from Konoha and casually threw it on the ground. His tied-up hair also came loose and fell down his back.
He gathered all his hair up, tied it with a hairband, and slung it across his chest. He then took off the sunglasses he was wearing and crushed them into pieces.
Actually, he didn't really like sunglasses because they made everything look dark and gloomy. But in Konoha, all the Aburame clan ninjas wore sunglasses, so he had no choice but to wear them too so as not to stand out.
On the other side, not long after Shisei Aburame left the forest, a young Jonin dressed in white and wielding a long sword arrived at the site of the battle with two ninja squads.
He bent down, looking at the traces of destruction around him, and found a piece of clothing with blood on the shoulder in the corner, with a Konoha headband still attached to it.
At that moment, one of the squad members leaped quickly from the forest and bent down to report, "Jonin Shirokumo, the Byakugan has spotted the target. A cloud of insects carrying a ninja is rapidly leaving Konoha, about ten miles away. Should we pursue them?"
Bai Yunshan gripped the headband tightly, a hint of struggle showing on his slightly immature face: "No need. That person flies extremely fast; we can't catch up at our speed. Send a team to follow his escape route and confirm the direction he fled. The rest of you come back with me."
The two teams of ninjas then separated, with one team responsible for searching for the target along the way, while the other team returned to report to the Hokage. On their return journey, they found the remaining clothing of several other ninjas, as well as a skeleton, in the forest of Mount Baiyun.
Back in the village, Baiyun Shanjian placed a few pieces of clothing in front of the Hokage, declaring the mission a failure.
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked at the clothes on the table and fell silent.
For a few moments, he felt that his previous decision was wrong, but he quickly dismissed the thought—Shisei Aburame had even cruelly murdered his own companions, and such actions had crossed his bottom line.
"This is not your responsibility. No one could have imagined that he would be so powerful. The decision you made back then was correct."
Instead of blaming him, Hiruzen Sarutobi offered words of comfort, which made Shirakumo feel even more guilty.
At the time, he did indeed have a contemptuous thought, because the defector was only a genin, and he trusted his senior, Yuhi Shinku, very much, thinking that having this expert was enough.
If he had been a little faster and had joined forces with Kurenai Yuhi to intercept the enemy, perhaps this wouldn't have happened, and this outcome wouldn't have occurred.
"Hiruzen".
At that moment, Danzo pushed open the door and entered. Underneath his loose black robe, one could vaguely see the bandages binding his body, the marks left from the northern battlefield.
"I've seen the intelligence." Danzo got straight to the point. "Shisei Aburame, eighteen years old, genin file, actual combat strength assessed as jonin level, killed Shiku Yuhi during his defection and wiped out two squads."
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked exhausted as he waved for Baiyun Mountain to leave.
Danzo continued accusingly, "Hiruzen, you've disappointed me greatly. You just let him get away? A rogue ninja of Jonin rank, and from a secret jutsu clan at that—what a huge loss it would be if he defected to the enemy!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi countered, "With fierce fighting raging on all four battlefields, there are fewer than ten Jonin remaining in the village. Who will we send to pursue them? And what will the cost be?"
"cost?"
Danzo said, "Hiruzen, you are too weak. The dignity of Konoha cannot be challenged. Since the founding of Konoha, apart from Madara Uchiha, there has never been such a serious defection incident. We must take swift and decisive action against Shisei Aburame."
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked deeply sorrowful and sighed deeply.
He was well aware of such things, but Konoha was too busy to care about them.
