Chapter 22 von Hohenheim and Charlemagne
Chapter 22 von Hohenheim and Charlemagne
Li Lin certainly wouldn't let such a good opportunity slip by.
Is there a better time to change Yhwach than now?
But instead of immediately going to Yhwach, he went to see someone else.
In 800 AD, a momentous event will occur in Europe that will influence the course of European history for the next thousand years.
That was when Charlemagne, the Frankish king, became emperor; that is, Charlemagne was crowned Roman emperor after being baptized by Pope Leo III.
However, that happened on December 25th; at least for now, he's still in the planning stage.
If you want to paint on a canvas, then the king on the canvas is also an important figure who can expand your influence.
After leaving Soul Society, Li Lin transformed into a blond-haired, blue-eyed Germanic man and arrived at King Charles's door.
This is the palace located in Aachen, a project personally supervised by Charles. The main structure of the palace was completed in 798, and Charles's instruction was that the palace must be comparable to Rome and Constantinople, and as magnificent as Ravenna.
The grand main hall is connected by a wooden colonnade, and inside is an equestrian statue of Theodoric brought from Ravenna, while the symbolic power is concentrated in the octagonal chapel.
When Li Lin arrived here, the first thing he saw was a mosaic of the Holy Son, and in the sunlight shining through the mosaic was the monarch's throne.
When Li Lin arrived, His Highness the King was still discussing something with his confidants.
Li Lin swaggered in, and none of the guards at the door or the servants along the way noticed his presence!
However, when they arrived below the throne, King Charles of the Franks was whispering among himself and several of his most trusted confidants.
He sat on a large oak chair, with a gorgeous carpet from the East spread out beneath him.
Although he was fifty-eight years old, years of military service and toil had etched deep wrinkles on his face, and his gray beard and hair added to his majesty. But his straight back and sharp, hawk-like blue eyes still demonstrated the unquestionable strength and will of this powerful ruler who was about to be crowned emperor.
At that moment, he also saw Li Lin walk in.
He had brilliant golden hair like ripe wheat waves, neatly tied back, and a pair of deep green eyes, as deep as an ancient pool in the forest, calmly reflecting everything in the hall.
His face was so handsome it was almost inhuman, with well-defined features and a fair complexion that had never seen the sun.
He was dressed in a well-tailored, exquisitely made dark traveler's outfit, with an antique-style dark red robe over it, the edges of which were embroidered with barely discernible silver lines. He looked like both a learned scholar and a mysterious hermit.
He walked with an air of nonchalance, as if strolling through his own corridor, seemingly oblivious to the fully armed, statue-like palace guards standing on either side.
The guards, including the ministers who were whispering among themselves, did not react to his arrival at all. Their gazes did not even shift, as if he did not exist at all!
Charlie's expression changed, and he immediately shouted, "Who goes there?"
The chief eunuch and several high-ranking officials standing beside Charles looked up in surprise at the sound, and looked at their king in confusion.
king……
Are you speaking to an empty space in front of you?
Ignoring Charlie's angry shouts, Li Lin walked through half of the side hall and stopped less than ten steps from the king's throne.
He bowed slightly, performing an elegant and ancient gesture with an exotic flair, and then said:
"Congratulations to the King of Franks, you are now able to become emperor."
Charlie noticed that everyone else was looking at him with confusion, and realized that it seemed only he could see the person in front of him.
"Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is von Hohenheim, and I am an alchemist who travels far and wide in search of the truth of the world and the mysteries of life."
Li Lin said, "Please also allow me to offer my sincerest congratulations to you—the most amiable Augustus, who is about to be blessed by God, the great and peaceful emperor of the Roman people, the Frankish and Lombard king blessed by God."
"At the same time, I bring you a small gift...—eternal life."
emperor?
Gift?
Eternal life?!
Charlie frowned, his suspicions growing stronger.
He is 58 years old this year, which is considered a long life in this day and age.
Although he believed he could live for another ten years or so, he did feel increasingly weak.
As for that series of titles, that's exactly what he wanted to get next, but that's not important, because it's already under his control.
He had already planned that on the 25th of next month, Christmas Day, he would have Leo III baptize him and crown him as the Roman Emperor.
But the art of immortality...
"Can you grant me immortality?"
Charlie looked at Li Lin, a burning glint in his eyes.
Who in this world isn't afraid of death?
But is this man trustworthy?
This sounds more like a myth or a lure for heresy.
Why should I believe you?
When the ministers saw Charles suddenly speaking to a ball of thin air, they were all puzzled and looked at each other, some even thinking that the king might be possessed.
"I am an alchemist, and I have already knocked on the door of immortality, but I am still missing one ingredient."
Li Lin seemed oblivious to the commotion around him, and simply raised his right hand slowly.
With his palm facing upwards, a soft red light emerged and condensed from his palm, eventually transforming into a crystal-clear gem the size of a pigeon's egg.
It is not static; inside, there seems to be liquid flames or blood slowly flowing and surging, exuding a warm and mysterious life force.
"This is the Philosopher's Stone, and it is only one step away from completion. This final step requires King David's help."
Charlie often compared himself to King David, so he was quite pleased with Li Lin's title of King David. However, looking at the jewel in Li Lin's hand, he said:
Why should I believe you?
"Although it is not yet complete, I think it is possible to give His Majesty a trial."
Li Lin released his grip, and the next moment the red gem floated up, shooting out a red line that struck Charlie directly.
In an instant, Charlie's body trembled violently!
This was not pain, but an indescribable, surging torrent of vitality that suddenly erupted and surged within his aging body!
It was as if a dried-up riverbed had been flooded with spring water; stiff bones became light, stagnant blood surged like rivers, and tired muscles were rejuvenated!
Those hidden wounds and pains that had troubled him for years melted away as quickly as ice and snow under the sun!
A long-lost sense of vitality and strength, belonging to the prime of his life, filled his limbs and bones!
