Chapter 263 This is how my life will be.
Song Huan followed Xiao Yunqing back to the hard sleeper carriage, where the girls were chatting on their berths.
The girl with the ponytail smiled when she saw them come in.
"Oh, the homeless man is back?"
Song Huan clasped his hands together and bowed to them, "Thank you, ladies, for letting me enter the upper class. I was just discussing the philosophy of life with a blond guy at the junction, and look, I've suddenly jumped up the social ladder."
Several girls were amused by him; some covered their mouths, while others laughed so hard their shoulders shook.
Xiao Yunqing stood to the side, watching his grinning face, her lips pursed.
She leaned closer, lowered her voice, and gritted her teeth, "If you're not going to sleep, you can go back."
Song Huan immediately lay down obediently, pulled the blanket up to her chin, closed her eyes, and quickly calmed her breathing.
He was actually quite sleepy.
Xiao Yunqing sat on the edge of the bed, chatting with the girls.
They talked about school, their majors, and what good food there was in Nanjiang.
Xiao Yunqing replied casually, glancing to the side every now and then.
His eyes were closed, his eyelashes drooping, and his breathing was very light.
Soon, the sound of steady breathing could be heard.
Xiao Yunqing helped him pull up the blanket to cover his exposed shoulders.
Just as the girl next to her was about to speak, she raised her index finger and put it to her lips, making a "shh" gesture.
"He's asleep."
The girls exchanged glances and smiled faintly.
No one spoke anymore.
Song Huan was awakened by the sunlight.
The setting sun shone through the train window, its orange-red light falling warmly on his face.
He opened his eyes and sat up.
Xiao Yunqing wasn't there, and neither were the other girls.
He rubbed his eyes and yawned.
A familiar voice came from the other end of the corridor.
Xiao Yunqing's voice could be heard among them.
She walked back carrying several plastic bags, followed by the girls, each carrying something in their hands.
Xiao Yunqing placed a bag of boxed lunches in front of him.
"I bought this for you."
Song Huan didn't say much, opened the lid, and started eating heartily.
Still the same mushroom and chicken stir-fry, still hot.
She sat beside him, holding a box in her hands, eating in small bites, glancing at him every now and then.
It got dark very quickly.
The lights in the carriage came on, illuminating the aisle.
Song Huan checked the time; it was ten o'clock.
He stood up, folded the blankets, and straightened the pillows.
Xiao Yunqing was sitting on her bunk, scrolling through her phone, when she looked up at him.
"Where are you going?"
"Go to sleep outside. Do you expect me to sleep with you tonight?"
He turned and left.
Xiao Yunqing opened his mouth, as if to say something, but he had already walked far away.
Song Huan walked around the carriage, but there were no empty seats.
The hard-seat carriages were all full; some people were sleeping on the tables, while others were snoring against the backs of their seats.
He walked back to the connecting area between the carriages, yawned, and looked out the window.
It was pitch black outside, and you couldn't see anything. Occasionally, a streetlamp would flash by, turning on and off like it was blinking.
We're getting closer and closer to Nanjiang.
It should arrive tomorrow morning.
He sat down on the floor, leaned against the carriage wall, stretched out his legs, adjusted his posture, and closed his eyes.
I was just about to fall asleep when someone kicked me.
He opened his eyes.
Xiao Yunqing stood in front of him, wearing a thin coat, her hair loose and untied.
"You're really sleeping out tonight? Come sleep at my place."
Song Huan closed her eyes. "No, that bed is so small. If I sleep there, how will you sleep?"
"Just squeeze in to sleep."
Song Huan didn't even look up. "I'm afraid you'll be squeezed into a meat patty."
He waved his hand, as if shooing away a mosquito, "Go away, don't disturb my beauty sleep."
Xiao Yunqing was furious. She stood there, her chest heaving.
Her inner thoughts drifted over, a mixture of anxiety and anger.
[I finally mustered up the courage to let him go back to sleep.]
[He's so cold.]
[I'm so angry!]
She turned and walked away, her footsteps heavy, clattering.
Song Huan breathed a sigh of relief; finally, she could have some peace and quiet.
He adjusted his posture and put his arm under his head.
Before I could even close my eyes, I heard footsteps again.
This time it's heavier and faster.
He opened his eyes.
Xiao Yunqing returned, still holding a pillow in her arms.
He was stunned. "What are you doing?"
She said angrily, "I want to sleep here too."
Song Huan sat up. "Stop messing around. If I sleep outside, I'm a homeless person, but if you sleep outside, you're a fallen princess. Go back to sleep."
She hugged her pillow, her face stubborn.
"I don't!"
Song Huan looked at her.
She pouted, raised her chin, and glared at him.
He sighed, "Alright, alright, I'll sleep there later, you go back first."
She didn't believe him. "You're lying. Come back with me right now."
"I need to use the restroom."
"Lazy people poop and pee a lot!" she said with a disdain, but a smile had already appeared on her face.
She stood up, hugged her pillow, and skipped away.
Her ponytail swung behind her as she walked lightly.
Song Huan deliberately stayed in the restroom a little longer.
I washed my face and looked at myself in the mirror. My hair was a mess and my eyes were a little swollen.
He splashed cold water on his face to clear his head before coming out.
He tiptoed back to the hard sleeper carriage.
The lights were off, except for one at the end of the corridor.
The girls were all asleep; some were snoring softly, and others were talking in their sleep, their words muffled and indistinct.
Xiao Yunqing was not asleep.
She was lying on her side, facing the aisle, with her eyes open.
Hearing footsteps, she immediately looked up.
Seeing him, my eyes lit up, like a lamp being lit in the darkness.
She shrank back inside, her small body pressed against the wall, leaving most of the bed exposed.
She lifted the blanket and patted the bed.
Helpless, Song Huan tiptoed over, sat down on the edge of the bed, took off her shoes, and crawled under the covers.
The bed is really small.
He lay down, and the two of them were almost shoulder to shoulder, making it difficult to even turn over.
Xiao Yunqing didn't mind and moved further inside, giving him more space.
"Okay, go to sleep now." Her voice was very soft, as if she didn't want to wake anyone.
With such a beautiful woman lying next to him, so fragrant and soft, Song Huan had no desire to sleep.
He turned his head, looked at her beautiful face, and whispered, "Little Cloud, have you ever heard the story of inviting a wolf into the house?"
Xiao Yunqing was taken aback. "What story about letting a wolf into the house?"
Song Huan deliberately tried to scare her, "It's just a man and a woman, like dry wood meeting a raging fire, and then..."
Xiao Yunqing blushed, her face turning red all the way to the tips of her ears.
She glared at him fiercely, "If you dare touch me, I'll kick you down."
Song Huan laughed, turned her head away, and pretended to be asleep.
Xiao Yunqing looked at him, her lips pursed.
My thoughts drifted over from her, softly, as if afraid of being overheard.
[snort!]
[I doubt you'd dare.]
[but……]
[What if he really dares?]
[Pah! Pah! Pah!]
[What am I thinking?]
She looked at his profile for a while, then closed her eyes.
The blanket was a bit short, and he still took up most of it.
She pulled the blanket closer to herself, but she still couldn't get comfortable.
Move it to the left, and the right side will be drafty.
Move it to the right a bit, the left side is drafty.
After struggling for a long time, I finally found a position.
She sighed.
[This is how my life will be.]
The person next to him turned over, and the blanket was pulled away a bit more.
She was too lazy to pull anymore, so she closed her eyes.
The wind howled outside the window, and the wheels clattered and rattled as they rolled over the rails.
She listened to those sounds and slowly fell asleep.
