Chapter 28 The Arrogant Newcomer
Chapter 28 The Arrogant Newcomer
The girl was an exchange student sent to Silver Academy by the dwarven alchemy academy.
He is a half-dwarf and half-human, and is not only proficient in dwarven runic magic, but also possesses an eighth-level mental affinity and fire elemental resonance, making him a natural alchemical prodigy.
Currently, he is a third-year student at the Fire Academy of the Silver Magic Academy, specializing in blacksmithing.
"Specialization" is the study direction for intermediate magic degrees.
The learning paths for magic apprentices and junior magic degrees are already known: one is to receive general magic education, and the other is to choose a major magic series.
The intermediate magic degree, on the other hand, involves choosing a specific direction to specialize in after selecting a major series, mainly based on the characteristics or concepts of that series.
For example, the Earth element can choose "Seal", "Fortify", or "Assimilate";
The fire element can be used to study "incineration," "high temperature," or "forging."
The wood element includes directions such as "entwining", "nurturing", and "perception".
Each element can give rise to countless specialized branches. Mages can follow traditional paths or create their own new directions. Therefore, even among intermediate fire mages, the abilities they possess can be completely different.
The girl known as Amber, although she has only entered the third year, already possesses magical skills equivalent to a mid-level mage. All she lacks is academic credits. Once she completes the credits and obtains her mid-level magic degree, she will become a legitimate mid-level mage.
Of course, as an outstanding international student from the dwarf race, she often came to the alchemy workshop, which was also frequented by dwarves, to earn credits.
Hearing Old Hammer's words, Amber turned her gaze from the window and spread her hands:
"Uncle Hammer!"
"I've tried every alternative metal I can think of these past few days! Mithril, Adamantite, Meteorite, even mixing red gold and copper together to melt it all down, but it didn't work. The mana conductivity dropped so low I couldn't bear to look at it."
"I've revised the recipe twenty-three times; my hands are practically burned! What more do you want from me?"
Old Hammer and Jian Feng, who looked almost exactly like him, exchanged a glance and sighed in unison.
Magic conductivity rate is the efficiency of magic transmission in a magical item. An excellent magical item is unqualified if its magic conductivity rate is too low, meaning that only one or two out of ten parts of magic power can be transmitted.
Amber possesses both the blacksmithing and alchemy talents of dwarves and humans, making her their greatest hope.
If he can't even find a substitute for pure gold in amber, then he's truly out of options.
"I want you to think about it some more," Old Hammer said helplessly.
"I can't think of anything."
Amber spoke with righteous indignation, then suddenly her eyes shifted, and she looked towards the doorway:
"But did someone just accept a mission? I heard the sound of a broom."
Old Iron Hammer shook his head:
"So what if someone else has taken on the task? Seven or eight groups of students have already come here, and now there are more than a dozen people next door trying it out. Some of them are even more knowledgeable in alchemy than you are. Which one of them has solved the problem?"
The girl with the reddish-brown braids ignored him, stood up, brushed the metal shavings off her apron, and strode outside.
I was thinking to myself, "I'm not going to waste my time wailing like you old folks."
I glanced at it for a bit and then went to the Thunder Elemental Tower next door to play with Cecilia.
Oh, maybe she's in the Wood Elemental Tower right now!
……
Inside the hall next door.
The furnace roared, and smoke billowed everywhere.
A dozen or so students were scattered in front of their respective worktables, their faces appearing and disappearing in the reddish light of the molten gold.
Some were smelting metal, some were recording data, and some were staring blankly at the formula.
They were all college students who had accepted missions; some specialized in forging, alchemy, or were magicians who had studied alchemy.
When they saw someone come in, several people looked up.
"Another one, who is it?"
"Don't recognize him, a freshman, right? That cat next to him looks familiar though, isn't it Meow Leon, the guy who owes a ton of credits?"
The academy doesn't have many students in each year. Lorne's batch only had a little over two hundred people. There might be some differences in other batches, but not by much. Therefore, most students knew each other, even if they were from different grades.
Whispers drifted from every corner:
"I guess it's just a matter of luck. Anyway, it's free to try. But it's a bit rushed that freshmen are taking on this task only two days after the start of the semester."
"Huh? It's him?"
Someone recognized Lorne and exclaimed in surprise:
"This is the junior I told you about, the one who blew up the Echo Monument during the admissions test and amazed everyone during the intelligence assessment. Don't underestimate him, he has the Four Elements Resonance."
"What? It's him! Level 6 affinity, four-element resonance, and he even got a pass to Sylvie's Greenhouse."
"What a lucky kid. But what's he doing here? Four-element resonance is rare, but at this point in time, he probably hasn't even taken the most basic alchemy class yet, has he?"
Lorne looked in the direction of the voice that had spoken up for him and found that it was a familiar face he had met once before, the squinty-eyed senior who had presided over the intelligence assessment, Carol.
If I remember correctly, he was the vice president of the Alchemy Society?
It's not surprising that they appeared here.
"Senior Carol," Lorne nodded.
"You also accepted the Crimson Gold's mission?"
Carroll held a recipe notebook in her hand, her sleeves rolled up to her elbows, and black ash still clung to her fingers:
"You're very brave, but don't be nervous. I'm just here to give it a try. It's not shameful to fail. I've failed five times already, haha."
Several older students nearby noticeably softened their attitude when they saw Carol, and one of them muttered to himself:
"Carol's here too? His alchemy skills are quite impressive..."
Carol glanced at the group and winked at Lorne:
"Ignore them. These people can't handle themselves and they don't like anyone. You take a look first, I'll go run today's recipe again. By the way, you haven't taken an alchemy class yet, have you? Ask me if you don't understand anything."
Lorne thanked him politely and then walked to the other side.
To be honest, he doesn't really have much confidence right now.
What is red gold? How can it be replaced?
He actually had no idea what to expect.
But who cares? A man should travel the world; how can he give up without even trying?
……
The sample area is located at the far end of the workshop, where a row of transparent cabinets made of some unknown material display various metal ores and finished products.
The ingot has a detailed instruction label attached to it.
Lorne found the cabinet labeled "Crimson Gold" and stopped.
It was a dark red metal ingot with a soft sheen on its surface, like a solidified sunset.
The label reads: Crimson Gold, a rare magical metal with a magic conductivity of 94%, primarily used as a core component for mid-to-high-tier rune weapons.
"Magic conduction rate 94%..."
Lorne glanced around and, finding no one paying attention to him, quietly extended his spiritual sense, penetrating the surface of the crimson gold. Instantly, the intricate details of the crimson gold were clearly detected by his spiritual sense, which was capable of discerning even the most minute details.
"Huh?"
"That's interesting."
