After climbing over a car, the hunter had reached the front of the group, removed a loose and damaged section of the roadside fence, and used the sharp decorative part as a large knife.
Surprisingly, it worked quite well; it was a tetanus knife technique.
"Damn it, they're quite powerful too!"
As a monster lunged at the hunter with its jaw trembling, the hunter swung the fence at its face from below. The sharp fence pierced its head through its jaw, most likely hitting the brainstem. Yet the monster did not die on the spot and continued to try to attack the hunter.
The hunter couldn't even maneuver the railings completely freely!
With a little more force and a slight change in angle, the railing tore the monster's face apart, sending out several pieces of flesh and skull fragments. Now the monster was truly dead.
"Don't linger with them for too long, it's better to run now!"
NTW tossed a flashbang to the hunter and then continued to follow behind the squad. In just that short time, the hunter almost fell behind; she hadn't expected that killing one enemy would take so long.
She glanced at the flashbang in her hand, then suddenly kicked a staggering, decaying zombie. With just one kick, the zombie's upper body flew off.
Sure enough, the physical condition of zombies cannot be generalized. The hunter put away the flashbang and continued to follow the group, dragging the railing along.
"Hey Commander, when can I fire a shot? It's not exciting enough to always rely on this little underbarrel gun!"
The architect's condition flared up again; the submachine gun mounted on the launcher could no longer satisfy her stimulating senses.
Stop your dangerous thoughts!
"No, please stop!"
The metrologist and Lovan shouted at the same time.
The architect could only reluctantly continue playing with his underbarreled submachine gun...
If the architect were to fire a shot, the entire quarantine zone would probably be in an uproar for quite some time.
Although it's quite eye-catching nowadays for architects to carry a transmitter while running around.
The situation was extremely dire. They could only retreat along the streets, hoping to find a place to hide temporarily, but these monsters were like rats, able to emerge from anywhere. Just as they were about to run into an alley...
"The old way, run through the alleys!"
Just as Luo Fan was about to run inside, a zombie jumped down from above and lay down in front of him, its trembling jaws emitting its unique roar and the rapid panting of a canine.
Mondragon quickly stepped forward, pulled Lovan behind him, and punched the monster, but it only caused the monster to crash into the wall and not lose consciousness.
This punch enraged the monster even more, its ferocious eyes becoming even sharper, but before it could launch an attack, Barrett ripped open its chest with a single shot, leaving only a large gash.
"This skin is really thick; even 12.7mm couldn't tear it..."
Instead, one might be surprised by the monster's physiological resilience at first glance, but thankfully, at least it can be killed; otherwise, it would be troublesome.
"Let's go, Commander. It's not time to be surprised yet. Perhaps there are many more things here that will surprise us..."
After calming himself down, Mondragon patted Lovan on the shoulder, preparing to take him away with him.
"Yeah, that's true. If even zombies like this can appear, I wouldn't be surprised if some other flying creatures appeared next..."
Ultimately, one has to admire Umbrella's ability to cause trouble; these zombies pose a far greater threat than Lickers or Tyrants.
If they were Lickers or Tyrants, they would be safe by now, but instead, they are just running around frantically.
"Which way should we run?!"
374 rescuers
Running like this will lead nowhere. No matter where they are, those monsters will always appear out of nowhere. It's like they've run into a cave full of spider webs. No matter where they are, they are always within the spiders' hunting range.
Although these monsters were significantly fewer in number than ordinary zombies and were mixed in with each other, each one was difficult to deal with. The three snipers in the squad could only complement each other as much as possible, while the others could only try to slow them down, making it difficult to guarantee the killing efficiency.
"At this rate, we can't kill them as fast as they come!"
Alpha kicked a zombie away, making it stagger. She had already fired nearly twenty shots to kill this kind of zombie completely.
"I know, but there's nowhere to hide right now!"
Luo Fan knew that without sufficient killing power, it was only a matter of time before they were caught.
Previously, he always carried out missions in Raccoon City while remaining in stealth, so it's a bit hard to adjust to suddenly becoming a heartthrob in Denver.
Their gunshots, like the chirping of birds, echoed through this concrete jungle, and then, in response, scattered gunshots began to appear all over the city.
The difference was that not everyone was equipped with a silencer like them; the crackling sounds all around seemed to bring Luo Fan back to the feeling of Chinese New Year.
"Why aren't they chasing after the others? Why are they all coming this way to us?!"
This was AA12's third high-explosive drum magazine. Despite leaving behind a large number of ordinary zombie corpses along the way, their situation had not improved much.
The group stopped in the middle of the road, pondering which direction to continue running, but the question seemed rather difficult.
"But it doesn't seem to make much difference which way we run..."
The measurement officer used his weapon to cut a zombie in two and kicked the body aside.
To be able to fire a gun while simultaneously thinking is truly a difficult task...
Hey, you over there!
Just as they were feeling lost, a shout from an adult male came from the west side of the group.
Everyone turned to look and saw a man dressed in tattered clothes and wearing a hood standing at the entrance of the alley, shouting at them. Beside him was another man carrying a hunting rifle.
Luo Fan and the girls did not answer immediately. Instead, they all slightly raised the muzzles of their guns in the direction of the two men, remaining vigilant. They did not want to be tricked by these bandits again.
The ragged man shouted again, "We're not those firecracker thugs. We'll take you to a safe place. If you don't want to die, come over here now!"
......
"Commander, should we listen to them?"
JS9 asked in a low voice.
Based on their current situation, it's difficult for them to discern friend from foe, but...
“Let’s go with them. We can’t escape on our own. They have guns but didn’t attack before we found them. They even shouted at us while we were being chased. They seem more trustworthy than those who underestimated us.”
Moreover, they were familiar with the group's methods; playing with firecrackers meant that, besides themselves and the military, other locals had already suffered the same fate.
With their next plan decided, the group ran towards the alleyway to meet the two unfamiliar men.
"I hope you're not joking with us. We're short on time, and guns don't fly..."
To secure his position, Luo Fan directly threatened him.
The other person nodded and pointed with his thumb to the dark alley behind him: "Of course, you're not wearing White Eagle Army uniforms or those damn red-eyed gas masks. You're not Alfred's people, so you're probably outsiders. Come on, we'll take you to a safe place."
Without further ado, the other party moved towards the alleyway after Luo Fan and the others arrived.
Since things have come to this point, we have no choice but to go along with them. They can't possibly escape unscathed on their own. Let's see how the clever locals will solve this problem.
Since the enemy's weapons had limited firepower, the task of dealing with the zombies automatically fell to the girls, while Luo Fan sought their explanation of the current situation as they ran.
"Hey, what are these monsters? Why are they so hard to deal with? And who is Alfred?"
Luo Fan caught up with the two people in the front row and, taking advantage of a moment when it was safe to do so, raised his question.
The other person didn't turn around and quickly explained, "We don't know what these monsters are either; we just call them 'Night Demons' based on their habits."
"Night Stalker?"
Lovan had never heard of this monster when he was in Raccoon City. Was it another new species created by Umbrella?
"That's right. These monsters are nocturnal. During the day, they hide in buildings like shopping malls where the sun doesn't shine directly inside. At night, they come out in droves to hunt for food. So we usually hide at night. Many outsiders like you who don't know anything have died. They were mostly killed by the Night Demons. It's only because you guys are better equipped that you've survived until now."
Please, it's not just about equipment. My girls are all superheroes. They can hold their own against these Night Demons in hand-to-hand combat. They just have thick skin, so their small-caliber weapons aren't very effective. But they can definitely handle an arm wrestling match.
"So, why do they hide during the day and go out at night?"
Luo Fan didn't intend to argue with the other party, but simply continued to try to extract more information.
"Because they are afraid of ultraviolet rays. As long as they are exposed to ultraviolet rays, their bodies will begin to weaken, their skin will turn red as if on fire, and they will emit black gas. To put it simply, as long as they are exposed to ultraviolet rays, they will feel pain and have difficulty moving. So they have to hide in buildings during the day."
This is the first time I've seen such a characteristic. A zombie that's afraid of ultraviolet rays, like a vampire, except this kind of vampire is anything but elegant...
The man continued, "Oh, right, about Alfred, whom I mentioned earlier, he's the boss of a gang in this city, you could even call him a warlord. They even dare to rob the military. The people you just encountered were their men. Firecrackers are one of their usual tactics; it's old-fashioned, but it always works. They just hide in a stinking corner and throw firecrackers to lure the Night Demons and other zombies over. You saw it yourself; even the military has a hard time dealing with these monsters, let alone you. Once you get hit, you have to keep running, and then they can scavenge like rats, picking up anything still usable. Damn bastards..."
The man clearly felt a strong aversion to this style of behavior.
Is this so...
P.S.: College entrance exams are over, so I'll add an extra chapter ( ). Mainly, today the Taiwan server of Otherworld Agency released a character that really appeals to my XP. Otherworld is currently scheduled to appear, and it will be available to everyone soon. Also, I listened to the theme song from the Girls' Frontline big event, and it got me really excited...
Please save the song "Light of the Birch Tree" by the Heterogeneous One; you'll need it later. In tomorrow's update, the White Eagle's methods will be revealed, and some aspects of the situation will become clear. A massive game of chess, concerning the protagonist and even the world, has begun. (I'm not sure if this is the right way to put it, as I'm not entirely sure of my own judgment.)
Just like Girls' Frontline, let's update the world's edge!
Stay tuned
"The Light of the Birch Tree" is so beautiful, I had to listen to it (and I'll use it later).
375 A close call
"and many more!"
Damn it, I've been overlooking a very serious issue, one he should have asked from the very beginning...
"what happened?"
The man finally turned around and asked in confusion, startling everyone with Luo Fan's surprised shout.
"Why would Alfred's men want to rob the military? Why don't you ask the military for help? Aren't the military's purposes in entering the quarantine zone to conduct search and rescue operations, besides retrieving resources?"
"Ah......"
A disdainful laugh came from under the hood, sending a chill down Luo Fan's spine.
Could it be...
"Fuck the military! They'll save us?! Fuck them! Do you know what they've done?! They're killing people! Everyone in the quarantine zone, they're killing them all! They kill every single one they see! Look at those airdrops falling from the sky, only one or two out of five are for us! The rest are all for the military's own people. The airdrops for us are mostly just a smokescreen to appease international public opinion. You think it's been so long, why the search and rescue operation isn't over yet? Because they haven't fucking killed everyone here!!!"
The man's sudden roar sent chills down Luo Fan's spine; he hadn't expected the other man to be so angry...
"What exactly happened here...?"
MG4 asked timidly.
"What happened?! Do you know what happened at the Denver quarantine zone transfer entrance two weeks ago? A shark massacre! Everyone who tried to get out of the quarantine zone was shot dead on the spot! The scariest thing is that the news didn't spread, which means that apart from us, nobody knows about it! They're trying to keep quiet. Nobody here can get out except for outsiders. You can come in from the outside, pay enough money, and walk out safely with your credentials, but we can't!"
That's true. When Luo Fan first entered the train station, he did see quite a few people not in uniform. Some looked excited, some looked apprehensive, some were preparing to go in, and some had come out alive. If what this man said was true, then it seemed that only outsiders like them could be safely escorted out...
Although I had suspected this for a while, I was still quite shocked when I heard the person in question describe it to me.
The girls were already quite familiar with this style of behavior; it was common in their world, and perhaps they themselves had even participated in similar actions...
"Two of my friends died in that shark attack. Since then, nobody here trusts the military. Some have even organized several attacks against the military, just to steal weapons and food. It's fucking pathetic. The people we can trust aren't even our own country's army. What do they mean by 'the white eagle always stands behind the people'? Maybe what they really mean is hiding behind the people when something happens. To hell with peace and equality, FxxK off!"
......
Well, that's very much in the style of the White Eagle, both in the original world and here. But there's still one question: what is the White Eagle's motivation for doing this, and what are they trying to hide?
However, even the locals probably wouldn't know the reason. The White Eagle is unlikely to tell them the reason for their decision. If word gets out, there will be a massive media storm, and the White Eagle certainly doesn't want that to happen, since they haven't even kept such a big shark-slaying operation a secret.
"careful!"
Another monster called Night Demon pounced out of a window in the alley. Luo Fan, who was targeted, dodged in time, causing the Night Demon to fall to the ground. However, the Night Demon landed as lightly as a cat and was not injured in its hands or feet.
Adeline fired a shot into the tear in the Night Demon's jaw, finishing it off in a second.
The man was also surprised for a moment: "Well, it seems that you outsiders are quite experienced in dealing with such situations."
"of course."
They were among the few survivors of Raccoon City. Although they had never seen a Night Demon like this before, there were at least precedents like the Lickers.
"So, how far are we from our destination?! Aren't we just moving from one alleyway into another block?!"
Luo Fan was getting tired of running around like this. No matter where he was, the Night Demon's pursuit never seemed to end. Now it seemed that the only difference from the beginning was the addition of two useless men.
"Don't worry, we'll be there soon..."
At the end of the street, they could see a building similar to the one they had hidden in a few minutes earlier—a large building. The difference was that here, they could see what appeared to be two figures in the windows.
When they were still sixty meters away from the building, the man waved towards it.
"Hermann, throw the flare, quick!"
It seems to be addressed to people inside the building...
Unsure of the unique hospitality procedure, the group could only focus on firing their guns and eliminating the zombies that tried to approach.
But during the firing, a familiar purple light suddenly appeared in his peripheral vision, causing Luo Fan's pupils to shrink by several degrees instantly.
