Chapter 25 Ada, the Hidden Passage
Chapter 25 Ada, the Hidden Passage
Li En pressed the call button.
The aftershocks of the grenade explosion were still lingering in the corridor.
The impact sound poured into the control room from the west passage, and the reverberation bounced back and forth in the circular space.
He waited until the low, heavy air currents had completely passed before adding a sentence.
"I need more powerful weapons to penetrate this thing."
"I have the virus and the vaccine."
Release your finger from the button.
Before the click of the broadcast being cut off had even faded, the sound of G2 running could already be heard.
With each step, the keyboard on the console bounced upwards, and dust slid down to the edge of the desktop.
The fire hydrant pipes in the ceiling emitted a metallic fatigue tremor during the vibration, with the frequency increasing.
Li En didn't look back and ran in the opposite direction from the soundproof room.
He took the last grenade from the right side swivel of his tactical vest with his right hand.
I glanced at it from the side.
G2 was accelerating from the corner of the west corridor, the bone blade on its right shoulder trailing behind it, the tip cutting a continuous shallow groove in the concrete floor.
The secondary incision below the chest cavity was open, and the gums were turned outward, contracting rapidly with each breath.
He calculated the timing carefully, pressed the safety plate open with his thumb, and pulled off the pull ring with his index finger.
The metallic crack of the pressure plate popping up was half drowned out by G2's footsteps.
He gently tossed the grenade, which traced a straight parabola at a height of twenty centimeters above the ground before rolling into the spot where G2's left foot had just stepped.
boom.
The timing of the explosion was perfect.
The G2 detonated the moment its left foot stepped into the blast radius.
Debris and shockwaves, along with bits of paving stones, rolled up from her ankle, and the shockwave pushed her leg away from its original footing.
G2's entire body swayed, his left knee bent outward by less than ten degrees, and was then pulled back to its original position by the muscles in his leg.
Newly formed fascia tissue wriggles beneath the damaged skin, and grayish-red granulation tissue is squeezed out from the edges of the wound.
Lee En has already pulled out the Magnum.
The gun was raised to level, and the sights were aimed directly at the center of the giant eyeball.
boom.
The bullet entered his eyeball.
The surface of the eyeball is not a rigid structure. After the bullet penetrates, the liquid vitreous body quickly closes up, leaving only a slowly spreading ripple on the surface.
The ripples stopped two centimeters away.
"roar!"
G2's enormous eyeball turned around.
Li En saw his reflection in the murky, dark reflection at the bottom of his eyeballs.
It locked onto him.
The bone blade swung up from behind, its edge slicing through the air with a whooshing sound, and slammed into the spot where Li En had just stood.
A half-meter-long crack was split open in the ground, and pieces of cement flew out and bounced onto the electrical box.
Li En had already put the gun away and was running towards the freight elevator.
The control room is not large; the distance from the broadcasting station to the elevator is at most fifty steps.
He ran to the elevator and leaned his back against the metal door frame.
The cold metal seeped in through the tactical vest, and my shoulder blades pressed against the metal plate.
He raised the Magnum again, aiming at the edge of G2's eye socket.
That last shot proved that hitting the center wouldn't penetrate; now let's change the angle.
The bony ring at the edge of the eye socket is the weakest point of entry. If a bullet is fired at an angle from there, it can bypass the vitreous body and directly hit the optic nerve foramen.
bang bang.
Two bullets struck the same spot on the upper edge of the eye socket ring, one after the other.
G2 paused, and the orbicularis oculi muscle at the base of his eyeball contracted violently.
Li En pulled out his last flashbang.
Hook your thumb on the pull ring and pull it off. Throw it straight forward while crouching down and covering your eyes with your left forearm.
The control room was instantly filled with blinding white light.
From floor to ceiling, in a space four meters high, every suspended speck of dust is illuminated as a gleaming silver dot.
The G2's eyeball was the first to be affected, with a large amount of light energy pouring into the pupil, causing the visual receptors to be temporarily deactivated.
The bone blade stopped swinging, the arms spread out in mid-air, and the body swayed wildly from side to side in place.
A metallic scraping sound came from above.
The vertical stair rails in the maintenance corridor vibrated and made a rhythmic sliding sound.
Ada descended the ladder and landed five meters to the left of Li En.
The hem of her red dress swayed slightly as she landed.
A small patch of dust from the ceiling had gotten onto the corner of his coat, and he was carrying a long black suitcase.
She glanced at G2, who was still frantically standing there, and turned to Lee Eun.
"Who exactly are you?"
"Raccoon City Police Department officer, Leon S. Kennedy."
After answering, Li En reached into the metal combination lock box, took out a sample of the original virus solution, and tossed it to her.
Ida caught it with one hand, and the glass tube spun in her palm.
She didn't look down; she simply put it in the inside pocket of her coat.
She crouched down, opened the long black suitcase, and turned the opening towards Li En.
Inside the box, nestled within molded foam, is a quadruple rocket launcher with four launch tubes arranged in a grid pattern, the tubes coated with a matte black lacquer.
Each firing tube is equipped with a firing pin assembly at the rear.
"Really, Officer Leon? Well then, you'd better do your best to get us out of here."
Li En took two steps forward and picked up the rocket launcher.
It feels a bit heavy, but not as heavy as I imagined.
He hoisted the launcher onto his right shoulder, and the tailstock was tucked into his shoulder socket.
"You don't need me to save you, FBI agent Ada."
He emphasized the word "FBI" a bit.
Ada's gaze lingered on his face for a few seconds.
"I'm getting more and more curious, Leon."
Her gaze shifted from Li En's face to the direction of the soundproof room.
She was well aware of every move this person made in the nest.
From locking cable car access in the control room, to setting up incendiary traps on the ceiling, to the window just created with a flashbang.
She simply couldn't figure out his purpose.
The virus was handed over without hesitation.
This person risked being crushed by the tyrant and split in two by G2 to stay in this underground facility, just to bring those three people out of the soundproof room alive.
Boom!Boom!
Two dull thuds interrupted her train of thought.
G2's shoulder and bone blade slammed into the corridor wall simultaneously, causing large areas of concrete plaster to peel off, revealing broken steel bars inside.
After those two violent impacts, its photosensitive organs have begun to recover their function.
The enormous eyeball reopened, its surface still bearing the grayish-white patches left by the flashbang burn, but the pupil had already locked onto its direction again.
"roar!!"
The bone blade swept horizontally from the left, shattering a corner of the adjacent lab table.
A piece of the stainless steel countertop was cut off, with the cut surface curled upwards.
Bang bang bang.
Ida fired at G2's knee joint as she ran.
The pistol in her hand was no smaller than a Magnum, and every shot hit the same spot.
G2's left knee was repeatedly struck by bullets, and the fascia exposed outside the joint capsule was torn apart, causing his leg to lose its balance.
Its massive body tilted a few degrees to the left, and the bone blade instinctively braced itself against the ground to maintain balance.
Li En, carrying the rocket launcher, seized the opportunity during the moment of imbalance.
The aiming frame of the quadruple launcher was fitted into the secondary port below the G2's chest cavity.
The trigger is pulled.
The first rocket roared out of the launch tube.
The exhaust flames left a scorch mark on the floor of the control room as the warhead spun and plunged into the secondary port.
Boom!
The explosion tore G2's chest cavity apart, severing his lower jaw and sending half of his esophagus flying to the ceiling.
G2 let out a deafening roar, its entire body arching backward.
The bone blade slammed into the ground, its tip scraping against the concrete and creating a series of sparks.
Li En immediately adjusted his aim.
The launch tube was raised twenty degrees, locking onto the giant eyeball on the right shoulder that was contracting violently.
Whoosh~~ Boom.
The second rocket accurately hit the center of the eyeball and exploded inside the eye socket.
The eyeball structure was torn apart from the inside, and grayish-red fluid mixed with tissue fragments splashed out, creating a large radial pattern on the ceiling.
The tendons connecting the base of the bone blade to the eye socket were completely severed by the explosion. The blade twitched meaninglessly in the air, carrying its last nerve signals, and then came to a standstill.
G2's massive body crashed to the ground.
The bone blade struck the floor tiles one last time, leaving a shallow mark, and then froze completely.
Li En did not put down the transmitter.
He aimed the remaining firing tubes at the motionless body again and pulled the trigger once more.
Boom, boom.
The third and fourth rockets struck the torso and the remaining head, respectively.
The shockwaves from the explosion repeatedly overlapped in the control room, dislodging fire sprinkler pipes and causing water to pour down from cracks in the ceiling.
G2's body was blown into several pieces, and the bone blade detached from his torso and rolled to the side of the electrical box.
Grayish-green fluid oozed from the ruptured blood vessels, pooling on the concrete floor.
Li En placed the empty rocket launcher next to the control panel and reached into the briefcase to take out the last vaccine.
He walked toward the largest piece of G2 debris and tossed the vaccine in an arc.
"Wait!" Ida's shout rang out in the control room.
Li En had already drawn his pistol, the sights aimed at the glass vaccine tube still in mid-air.
bang bang.
The first shot shattered the tube, and pale blue liquid splashed out in mid-air.
The second shot caught up with the shrapnel, driving the remaining medicine along with glass shards into the still-bleeding wounds on G2's remains.
The blue liquid came into contact with the wound.
White smoke rose from the contact surface, and the still slightly wriggling buds began to rapidly dry up and turn gray, then melted into a paste-like liquid.
The decomposition speed was even faster than when the G virus regenerated; within a dozen seconds, the largest piece of remains on the ground had shrunk by more than half.
"What I promised you was the virus." Li En put the gun back in its holster and looked at Ada. "It didn't include the vaccine."
Ada's gaze shifted to Annette in the soundproof room.
"You're putting her in danger."
"You're an FBI agent," Lee said calmly.
"Of course they'll protect civilians."
Li Enmai strode towards the soundproof room.
"It's time to leave."
Ida stood still.
Her gaze followed Li En's retreating figure for a few seconds before returning to her own, without uttering another word.
Turning around, the hem of her red dress brushed against the edge of the broken glass on the control room door frame, and her footsteps quickly disappeared into the depths of the east corridor.
The door to the soundproof room was pushed open.
Claire led Sherry out, with Annette following behind.
The three men walked out of the soundproof room and simultaneously saw the still-smoking, melting body on the floor of the control room.
Annette paused for a moment.
Her gaze fell on the remaining body of G2, lingering on a silhouette that she could recognize.
A moment later, she felt Shirley's grip tighten in her palm and came back to her senses.
"We have to get out of here right away," Annette said with a hint of sadness in her voice. "I know the evacuation route."
Li En knew, of course, that the evacuation route she was referring to was the train platform.
He nodded and let her walk ahead.
Annette walked quickly toward the B3 laboratory.
Lee Eun stood protectively behind Claire and Sherry.
After passing through the main experimental area of Laboratory B3, Annette found a hidden door in the back wall.
The door is located at the junction of a row of low-temperature storage cabinets and the wall, and when pushed open, it reveals a narrow maintenance passage.
This passage was not marked on the map, the walls were exposed concrete, and there was only one emergency light every ten meters overhead.
The passageway was quiet.
The sound of four people's footsteps echoed on the unpolished cement floor.
After walking for about three minutes, we arrived at the end of the passage.
An iron gate is embedded in the wall, and above the door frame hangs a rusty sign: Emergency Freight Exit.
Annette stepped forward and swiped her card.
The card reader's light switched from red to green, the electromagnetic lock on the iron gate was released, and the door flapped open a few centimeters.
Stepping out of the iron gate, the ground beneath my feet changed from concrete to steel grating.
Li En looked down over the railing.
The upper observation deck of the train platform.
Below is the evacuation train, its four rails gleaming with a cold, metallic sheen under the emergency lights.
The train was facing south, and the carriage doors were open.
