Chapter 1323 Declaration of War
Chapter 1323 Declaration of War
When the evil living creature's angry curses came from the direction of the spaceship's tail compartment, everyone in the entire Samsara Paradise headquarters heard them.
It wasn't a quiet muttering, nor a low curse, but the heart-wrenching scream of someone who discovers their treasured toy has been smashed.
"My little crow!"
"Do you know how long it took me to raise one like this?"
"You owe me money! You owe me money!"
The sound echoed on the fortress walls, eventually reaching the ears of the contractor who was cleaning his gun on the walls.
The tall, thin man who was cleaning the gun stopped what he was doing, looked up at the direction of the stern, paused for a moment, and then lowered his head to continue cleaning the gun.
"It's starting again."
The fat man squatting next to him eating canned food nodded, scooped up a mouthful of beans with a spoon, put it in his mouth, chewed it twice, and swallowed it.
"What is the Evil Living Buddha raising this time?"
"crow."
"A crow? Why would he keep one of those?"
"I don't know. Maybe it's a pet, maybe it's a vessel for summoned creatures. Who knows? What's going on in that guy's head is beyond the comprehension of normal people."
The fat man took another bite of beans, chewed a few times, then put down the can, took out a crumpled handkerchief from his pocket, and wiped his mouth.
"And now? The crow is dead?"
"He's dead. He killed himself."
The fat man was silent for a moment, then stuffed the handkerchief back into his pocket and picked up the can again.
"That is indeed his problem."
The people on the city wall reacted in three main ways after hearing the evil creature's angry curses.
The first type of person, like the tall, thin man cleaning his gun, glanced up at the direction of the stern, then lowered his head and continued doing his own thing.
Their expressions remained unchanged, as if they had heard the neighbor's dog barking and it had nothing to do with them.
The second type of person is like the fat man eating canned food: he stopped to listen for a few seconds, made a few comments, and then continued doing his own thing.
The third type of people are relatively few. They put down what they were doing, stood up, took a few steps toward the stern, then stopped, thought for a moment, and turned back.
They were debating whether to go and check, but then they thought it would be pointless. When the evil creature goes mad, no amount of persuasion can help, so going would be a waste of time.
As Lin Yi walked out of the main cabin of the spaceship, he happened to hear the evil living seed say, "You owe me money."
Hearing the evil creature's curses, the dean looked up and glanced at Lin Yi.
"What's wrong now?"
"I don't know. Shall we go out and take a look?"
The dean placed the teacup on the table, stood up from his chair, straightened his clothes, and then followed Lin Yi out of the main cabin.
The two crossed the main road and headed towards the stern.
On the way, I encountered several students from Kivotos who were patrolling with guns.
Seeing Lin Yi and the dean approaching, they stopped, nodded to Lin Yi, and then continued their patrol.
The tail hatch was open, and the evil creature stood inside, its bandages more disheveled than usual, with several hanging down from its shoulders and dragging on the ground, covered in dust.
Standing in front of him was Dr. Lan, who pushed up his glasses and had a gentle expression, like a kindergarten teacher comforting a child who was crying because his toy had been taken away.
"Calm down," Dr. Lan said calmly.
“Your little crow is dead, and I know you’re very sad. No matter how long you cry, the crow girl from the Sanctuary Paradise won’t come back to let you play one more time.”
Doctor Lan took a handkerchief out of his pocket and handed it to Xie Huozhong.
"Wipe your face. Your bandages are covered in dust."
The evil creature took the handkerchief, wiped his face haphazardly a few times, and then stuffed the handkerchief into his pocket.
"I'm not returning the handkerchief."
Dr. Lan smiled.
"No need to pay it back."
When Lin Yi and the dean reached the tailgate door, the evil living creature had already stopped cursing.
He leaned against the bulkhead, head down, the bandages in his hands unconsciously wrapping around his fingers, round and round.
The dean glanced at him, then looked at Dr. Lan.
"what's the situation?"
Dr. Lan adjusted his glasses and briefly recounted what had happened.
After Dr. Lan finished speaking, the dean's lips curled up slightly.
It wasn't a loud laugh, nor a gentle smile, but rather the slight, involuntary twitch of the corner of someone's mouth when they hear something they expected.
"So the messenger sent by the shepherd died before he even saw our men."
"Correct."
Did the shepherd know she was dead?
"He should know. News of the avatar's death will be transmitted back to the main body immediately. The Crow Woman's main body is in the Sanctuary Paradise headquarters, so the Shepherd couldn't possibly not know."
The dean nodded, turned around and leaned against the bulkhead, his hands in his pockets, his gaze fixed on the ceiling.
"interesting."
Lin Yi glanced at him.
What's interesting about it?
“The people from the Holy Order aren’t fools. They know what happened in this fallen region, they know about the existence of the alien species, they know about the orcs’ submission, and they know about the resistance of humans and sub-orcs. They’re not here to declare war, not to form an alliance, and not even to negotiate.”
The dean took a cigarette out of his pocket, put it in his mouth, and lit it with a lighter.
"They're just here to take a look. To see what the people of the Paradise of Reincarnation are like, to see if we can cooperate, and to see how we would deal with alien species."
He took a deep drag of his cigarette, and the smoke billowed from his nostrils, slowly dissipating into the air.
"But unfortunately, their probing ended as soon as it began. Little Raven was killed by the evil living creature before he even saw the Dean."
Lin Yi looked at the dean.
"So you knew from the beginning that the shepherd sent the raven woman not to negotiate."
"Negotiation?" The dean chuckled, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"What's the use of negotiation in this war-torn world? No matter how eloquent you are, the alien species won't stop eating you just because you've talked. No matter how many clouds you manage to create, other paradises won't stop stealing your composite just because you've talked. The only use of negotiation in a war-torn world is wasting time."
"Then why did you let her in?"
“I didn’t let her in; it was the evil living creature that let her in.”
The dean put a cigarette in his mouth and tilted his head to look at Lin Yi.
"Besides, do you think she would have seen me even if the Evil Living Being hadn't stopped her? Would she have seen you? Would she have seen Bai Ye? No. She would have been stopped at the city gate, taken to the reception room, and waited for hours, until it got dark, until she got impatient, and then someone would tell her, 'The Dean isn't here today, come back tomorrow.' She would come back tomorrow, wait for several more hours, and then be told that the Dean wasn't here today either. She would come back the day after tomorrow, and the day after that, until the aliens attacked, and she wouldn't have even seen our faces before going to guard the city walls with the Holy Domain Order."
Lin Yi remained silent for a moment before speaking.
"You're pretty mean."
The dean smiled.
"Living in the cycle of reincarnation doesn't depend on morality, it depends on your brain."
The three chatted for a few minutes at the tailgate door, then went their separate ways.
The evil creature leaned against the bulkhead, head down, bandages still wrapped around its fingers.
Doctor Lan stood next to him, pushed up his glasses, took a new handkerchief from his pocket, and stuffed it into the evil creature's pocket.
"spare."
Xie Huozhong didn't say anything, but simply stuffed the handkerchief into his pocket.
Dr. Lan turned around and walked towards the main cabin.
After taking a few steps, he stopped and turned his head to look at the evil living creature.
"Next time we catch a messenger from another amusement park, don't rush to play with her. First, ask her what she's here for. Once you know, then play with her. That way, even if she dies, at least we'll know what she wants to say."
The evil spirit raised its head and looked at Doctor Lan's back.
"understood."
Dr. Lan withdrew his gaze and continued walking towards the main cabin.
Time passed peacefully.
In the afternoon, the sky cleared up.
The clouds changed from gray to white, then from white to pale gold, and were gilded with a warm glow under the setting sun.
But the peace is always short-lived.
In the war-torn world of Paradise of Reincarnation, the duration of peace is inversely proportional to the number of cigarettes in your pocket.
The more cigarettes you smoke, the shorter your calm period will be.
The less you smoke, the longer you'll have peace of mind.
The peace ends when you finish the last cigarette in your pocket.
Lin Yi finished the last cigarette in his pocket at four o'clock in the afternoon.
At 5 p.m., the first alarm sounded.
The sound didn't come from the detection equipment, but from the watchtower on the city wall.
An SRT student stood on the watchtower, holding a telescope in his hand, his eye pressed against the lens, staring intently at the horizon.
Her body stiffened before the alarm sounded, not from fear, but because she saw so much through the binoculars that it took her brain a few seconds to process it all.
A few seconds later, she pressed the alarm button on the watchtower. The piercing alarm exploded in the air above the fortress, like a red-hot knife cutting through the tranquility of dusk.
After the alarm sounded, the entire headquarters of the Paradise of Reincarnation was like a pot of water on a stove, going from calm to boiling without any transition in between.
Within seconds, the people on the city wall had moved from their original positions to their respective battle stations.
The engineering students shut down all non-essential production lines the moment the alarm sounded, and switched all power to the weapon systems on the city walls.
The combat robots wake up in the charging station, the indicator light turns from red to green, the robotic arm detaches from the charging port, and the tracks turn on the ground, sending one combat robot after another onto the city wall.
Those robots come in two models.
The first type is the drone shooter, which is not large, only about the size of a washbasin. Its four rotors spin rapidly above the fuselage, making a buzzing sound when it takes off.
A light machine gun was mounted under the fuselage, and the ammunition belts hung down from the side of the fuselage, swaying with the wind during flight.
The second type is a mechanical dog, about the size of an adult Labrador, with hydraulic devices installed at the joints of its four legs, making it incredibly fast when running.
It was equipped with a medium machine gun on its back and a laser sight on its head, with a red dot sweeping back and forth across the city wall.
The engineering students assigned these combat robots to various locations on the city wall, with drone shooters patrolling in the air and mechanical dogs on standby on the ground.
All of this was accomplished within three minutes of the alarm sounding.
The speed and efficiency were so great that the contractors of the Reincarnation Paradise felt a little uncomfortable.
They were used to carrying their own ammunition, finding their own cover, and deciding when to fight and when to run in the world of war. Now that someone has arranged everything for them, they feel a little uncomfortable, like someone who is used to sleeping on the floor being suddenly thrown into a five-star hotel bed, tossing and turning and unable to sleep.
Lin Yi did not go up the city wall.
He stayed inside the base camp with the other support personnel.
This was taken into account in the previous expansion of the base camp's layout.
Lin Yi stood outside the tents in the supplies distribution area, watching the logistics personnel move between the tents.
They moved quickly, and everyone knew what they were supposed to do, where they were supposed to go, and what they were supposed to take.
A girl with a ponytail ran out of a tent in the supply distribution area, carrying a box of ammunition with the words "Energy Bullet - Universal Type" printed on it.
She ran up to Lin Yi, stopped, put the box on the ground, took out a list from her pocket, and handed it to Lin Yi.
"Teacher, this is today's estimated ammunition consumption. The students in the engineering department said that based on the intensity of previous battles, we need to prepare at least five times this amount."
Lin Yi took the list and glanced at it. The numbers on it made him frown slightly, but he didn't say anything. He simply folded the list and put it in his pocket.
"Have the engineering department go all out to produce, keep the production line running non-stop, three shifts a day, so that the machines don't stop even when people stop."
"clear."
Lin Yi withdrew his gaze and looked towards the city wall.
From this angle, you can't see what's outside the city wall; you can only see the outline of the wall and the busy figures on it.
The eight-meter-high city wall cast a long shadow under the setting sun, covering most of the camp and turning the white medical tents grayish-blue.
A deep and long horn sound came from afar.
The sound wasn't loud, but it was extremely penetrating, like a thin needle piercing into the ear, swirling around in the brain, and then exiting through the other ear.
hum.
Ripples spread across the water on the ground.
It had just rained yesterday, and there were still a few puddles on the campsite path. The puddles weren't big, and the deepest part only reached above the ankles.
But when the bugle sounded, the water in those puddles seemed to be stirred by an invisible hand, creating ripples on the surface.
Ripples spread from the edge of the puddle towards the center, and then from the center back to the edge, colliding and interfering with each other, forming a complex pattern on the water's surface.
The people on the city wall looked up in the direction from which the bugle call came.
On the horizon, a black dot is rapidly approaching.
The black dot moved very quickly, taking less than ten seconds to travel from the horizon to above the fortress.
That was a pterosaur.
Its wingspan exceeds ten meters, the wing membranes are grayish-black, its head is flat, and its mouth is long and thin, filled with densely packed sharp teeth.
The pterosaur circled once above the fortress before swooping down.
Its speed is astonishing. When it dives, its wings fold up to its sides, and its whole body is like a cannonball that has been launched, crashing straight down to the ground from high altitude.
At a height of less than twenty meters above the ground, the pterosaur's wings suddenly spread out.
The wing membrane vibrated violently in the air, producing a muffled sound, like a huge drum being struck hard.
The pterosaur slowed down the moment its wings unfolded, changing from a dive to level flight, gliding for more than ten meters over the fortress before landing on the ground.
What landed was not a pterosaur, but a humanoid creature.
Its body changed the moment it landed. Its wings folded behind it, forming two wing membranes that adhered to its back. The bones of its head moved and reorganized under its skin. Its mouth shortened and its teeth became smaller. It transformed from the head of a pterosaur into a head that was close to human but not entirely like a human.
Its eyes are the most uncomfortable part.
The pupil is brownish-yellow and radiates outwards, like a blooming flower, forming countless fine lines.
As the light changes, those radial patterns shrink or expand.
These are eyes that only creatures that have lived deep underground for countless eons would have.
The alien species stood outside the fortress gate, less than fifty meters from the city gate.
Its body is not very tall, about the same height as an average adult human.
The people on the city wall raised their guns the moment they saw the alien creature.
Hundreds of gun barrels were pointed at it simultaneously, their dark muzzles gleaming dimly in the setting sun.
Once someone pulls the trigger, this alien's body will be hit by hundreds of bullets simultaneously, turning it into a sieve within seconds.
The alien raised its head and looked at the people on the city wall with its radiating eyes.
"Outsiders, get out of our world."
With the blessing of Universal Language Lv.50, everyone present understood its words without needing a translator; the syllables were instantly converted into a language they could comprehend the moment they were uttered.
There was a moment of silence on the city wall.
Then King Kong laughed.
The laughter wasn't loud, but it was exceptionally clear in the quiet environment, like a stone thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples on the surface.
"Your world?"
King Kong stood atop the highest point of the city wall, arms crossed over his chest, tilting his head to look down at the alien species below.
His mouth stretched to his ears, revealing two rows of white teeth.
"Since I'm here, that's mine. No, it's our Paradise of Reincarnation."
When King Kong said this, several contractors next to him nodded.
A tall, thin man leaned against the city wall, his hands in his pockets and an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth. After hearing King Kong's words, he took the cigarette out of his mouth and twirled it between his fingers.
"Can you please not involve me in your conversation? You say it's yours, so it's yours, but I haven't agreed to it yet."
King Kong turned his head and glanced at him.
"You don't agree?"
"I disagree."
"Then go down and tell it that you are you and I am me, so that we won't get confused when we fight later."
The tall, thin man was silent for a moment, then put the cigarette back in his mouth.
"Okay, it's ours."
King Kong withdrew his gaze and looked again at the alien species below.
The alien looked at King Kong like a person looked at an ant.
"Interaction failed."
"Outsiders, we declare war on you."
hum.
The second bugle call sounded.
It is deeper, longer, and more penetrating than the first sound.
Rumble.
The ground began to tremble slightly.
When hundreds of thousands of alien species ran at the same time, their footsteps merged into a deep roar, coming from the direction of the horizon, crossing the wilderness, passing through the city walls, passing through the fortress, and reaching the ears of everyone.
A dark, imposing wave surged in from the horizon.
That wasn't a wave, it was an army of aliens.
Dense and boundless, stretching from one end of the horizon to the other, from your left to your right, from your feet to the edge of your field of vision.
King Kong stood atop the highest point of the city wall, watching the surging black tide, his mouth twisted into a wide grin.
"Brothers."
His voice wasn't loud, but every word was clearly heard by everyone present on the war channel.
"The party has begun."
Arrogant and maniacal laughter erupted from the city wall.
It wasn't just one person's laughter, it was the laughter of hundreds of people.
Many contractors wore smiles; as long as they survived today, they could kill to their hearts' content.
Moreover, Lin Yi and a group of medical staff are there to cover for you.
Many contractors now have no worries; for them, the most important thing is to kill these mutants. (End of Chapter)
