Chapter 65: Another Assessment
Chapter 65: Another Assessment
"Teacher, do we really have to go?"
"Of course." Seeing Loki's slightly worried expression, Cinderella coughed and said, "Since we've already promised Chaos... we have to keep our word."
"I've always been a person of my word, haven't I?"
"But...but the Hydra is really powerful!" Loki said, opening a book on the table. It was an encyclopedia she had taken from the library, which contained information on almost all magical beasts.
This also includes the target of this mission: a piece of nine-headed dragon skin.
"A nine-headed dragon, with nine heads that can breathe fire and lightning... its skin has extremely high magic immunity..." Loki quickly read the contents of the book, then suddenly looked at Cinderella: "Teacher, you know all this?"
"I know." Cidelyn nodded seriously. "I just found out."
"Well, that just means we don't know..." Loki sighed helplessly, then sat down and looked earnestly at Cinderella, saying, "Teacher... we're just mages... what should we do when facing magical beasts that are immune to magic...?"
"This is too much..."
"You're finding it difficult?" Cicelyn raised an eyebrow and asked, "I remember you weren't very confident during the last assessment."
The teacher's teasing tone made Luo Qixi purse her lips awkwardly: "Yes... of course it's very tricky."
Luo Qixi was at a loss for words when she saw her teacher so calm.
Does the teacher possess some kind of secret magic? Or some special technique?
Under Loki's expectant gaze, Cinderella nodded gently: "Since you find it troublesome, let's treat this as a test?"
"An assessment...?"
"It's the middle of the year now, isn't it?" Cidelyn said matter-of-factly. "Mid-year assessments are our tradition."
"Where are the established practices?"
Wasn't last year's assessment the only one?
"Teacher, do you mean not only do we have to kill the Nine-Headed Dragon... but also that I'll be the only one doing it?"
"Pretty much?" Cinderella nodded knowingly. "Of course, you can form a squad or something... but I won't help you with that."
"And just like before... if I make a move, it will be considered a failure in the assessment."
Cinderella was well aware of the Nine-Headed Dragon's strength. If Loki were to go alone, she would probably be killed in one fell swoop. The purpose of the assessment wasn't to send Loki to her death; it was to have some fun.
"..." Luo Qixi remained silent upon hearing this.
Looking for someone... but who can I look for?
Should I hire some people to go with me? But the location of that nine-headed dragon is very far away... According to Chaos's intelligence, this nine-headed dragon lives alone in the Conflict Zone, which is the eastern part of the Central Continent and the southeast of the Kingdom of Lanoa.
A round trip would take a long time... and the teacher can only take one person with him on the flight no matter what... so we'll have to hire adventurers locally.
"Don't worry about the money," Catherine added, as if realizing something. "If you pass the assessment, I'll reimburse you."
What if it's not completed?
Cinderella's silence made Loki shake her head.
"I understand, teacher."
"Hmm." Cidlin nodded gently. "Then hurry back and get ready... Chaos can't wait much longer."
"..." Luo Qixi took a deep breath and then quickly walked out of the room. This time she really needed to prepare properly... after all, the place she was going to was so far away and so dangerous.
Watching Loki leave, Cinderella stretched slightly, glanced at the midday sun, and then pursed her lips.
I think I stayed up late tonight... I should get some rest earlier.
She casually pulled up the coffin lid and lay down inside, feeling the cool sensation, and let out a soft breath.
While Cinderella was asleep, the land of conflict was bustling with activity.
The land of conflict has always been home to numerous kingdoms, with countless kingdoms being born today and perishing tomorrow. Due to the war between humans and demons, the great kingdoms that once existed here have been destroyed, and the remaining small kingdoms, barely surviving, are engaged in fierce wars with each other, driven by their own interests.
At the heart of this land of conflict stands Herafeno, the former capital of a great kingdom. Despite its location in the center of chaos, it is the safest city in the region due to its special political status in the past.
At the very least, most kingdoms would not actively invade.
Therefore, such a bustling metropolis located in a chaotic place naturally became a paradise for adventurers.
Inside the adventurers' guild, a handsome young man with brown hair was standing by the task board, looking it over, while a man who looked like a monkey stood next to him.
"Hey Paul, haven't you made your choice yet?" he said, pursing his lips. "These commissions are all about the same level of difficulty."
"I know," Paul waved his hand and said, "I'm not looking for difficulty."
"I'm choosing which commission is convenient for me."
"On the way?"
"It's on my way to Milris," Paul said matter-of-factly. "Don't you know Milris has the most noble ladies?"
"I heard they are all very beautiful."
"..." Upon hearing this, the monkey-faced man sighed, "Don't get involved with anyone you shouldn't have again."
"Have you forgotten what happened in Krik City?"
"Hey, hey... but she took a liking to me first, okay?" Paul scratched the back of his head. "It's not my fault. Is it reasonable to turn down a woman who's offered to you?"
"Even if she is the city lord's daughter?"
"I don't know either," Paul said, shaking his head. "If I had known she was the city lord's daughter, I would have asked for more money or something."
"You're such a scumbag."
"No, that's not true. She offered to give me the money, okay?" Paul seemed to have lost interest after hearing what the monkey-faced man said. He pursed his lips and casually picked up a commission.
It was an investigation mission in a swamp not far from Herafinor, where some kind of monster was said to be active and devouring passing travelers.
Difficulty level A.
"Are you sure you want this commission?" The monkey-faced man raised an eyebrow. "This commission doesn't seem to match what you're looking for."
"Isn't it all because of you?" Paul pressed the commission to the monkey-faced man's chest and said, "This is it... After taking this commission, the money should be enough, right?"
"More or less?" The monkey-faced man counted on his fingers and said, "But if you really want to go to the continent of Milis, we might need to pay for a boat ticket."
"Alright, alright... I got it!" Paul said, waving his hand, and then swaggered over to several scantily clad women.
Seeing him smiling among those women, Monkey Face sighed helplessly, then sauntered over to the counter and handed over the request form.
